Just today Focus Features nabbed The Place Beyond The Pines, which debuted in Toronto last week and marked the eager-awaited arrival of Derek Cianfrance’s second film after his debut, Blue Valentine. The sale was a closely-tracked one, and the studio will be arranging some sort of 2013 release for the bank robbery drama starring Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper.

The sale also comes as we get our first glimpses of the movie- one is a straight-up clip and the other is a more irritating interview segment that intercuts the film with the director talking about it. I’ve got both of those below.

Cianfrance has been speaking at length about the film, focusing on the details the were intent on capturing around the bank robberies. He apparently insisted on a 47 day shoot so they could spend a great deal of time on long-take action sequences and robbery scenes with no cuts, featuring real robbery victims. I can say for sure that Vulture’s interview will get your juices flowing for the film, even if some of the reviews haven’t been as enthusiastic as one would hope. Still, it sounds like an exciting film, and I’m interested to see the director stretching his action wings after focusing on the acute details of an emerging and dying romance in his last film.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for a release date.
