I’m still amazed by the brilliant move to turn Fast & Furious 5 into a heist movie that brought all the gang back together, and turns out they’re full on committing to the hybrid genre shift as promised by Luda himself in an interview.

“After Fast 5 I didn’t know how they could outdo that. It kind of takes up from where we left off, and there is a whole new batch of surprises. The crew that is in Fast 5, we are going up against a rival crew, so it’s almost like Justice League up against the Legion of Doom.”

Nice. There’s great energy brought to the franchise with its shift to an Ocean’s Films With Cars endeavor, and there’s definitely a high bar to top from the last films in terms of set piece scale. From the looks of things though, Justin Lin is up for the task as a great heap of photo and video has turned up from filming in the Canary Islands in Spain. Much of it simply captures the mundanity of filming (which is probably just about complete at this point), but you’ll get an idea of the cars involved. the scale of production, and one cool-looking bridge stunt for sure.
