If you were puzzled by the success of Grown Ups and are dreading the prospect of a sequel, angered by the existence of Jack and Jill, or, like me, got dragged to see You Don’t Mess with the Zohan and bolted after a half-hour, I’ve got news for you (and me): we’re fucked.

Unfazed by the fact that his last two movies bombed commercially as well as critically, Adam Sandler is at it again with another surefire clusterfuck that George Simmons would have gladly accepted an offer to make. Written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, all Deadline or anyone knows about Ridiculous 6 is that it’s a Western comedy (Get it? It’s a play on The Magnificent Seven! Hilarious!) and that it’s going to make Wagons East! look like Blazing Saddles.

Given the title and the Mexico setting, it’s probably safe to assume that six morons played by Sandler, Kevin James, and an assembly of his former Saturday Night Live castmates will be ineptly prepared to fend off bad guys south of the border. I can only imagine that Rob Schneider will play a Mexican, Steve Buscemi will get a cameo, and Kevin James will sit on a horse and it will fall down not because of his weight, but the weight of how awful he is. I do not want to think about this movie.

Here’s where things get interesting about the project. It was originally stationed at Columbia, who is responsible for the majority of Happy Madison’s missteps in the Geneva Convention. However, with Sony’s entertainment units hurting and Columbia head Doug Belgrad willing to address “Adam Sandler fatigue” a few months ago, Ridiculous 6 has curiously migrated over to Paramount, who’s planning to unleash this on humanity in 2014.

Deadline uses Sony’s “fiscal shortcomings” and their priority on saving money for the budget on the the seriously-may-be-actually-filming-next-summer Ghostbusters III, but I’ve got a feeling that fatigue Belgrad got asked about has something to do with this. What do you think? Will this be dogshit? Are studios finally waking up about how awful Sandler’s latest work is? Is Bill Murray going to be in Ghostbusters III? Debate amongst ourselves.
