Criminal gets behind the wheel to save his wife with the assistance of a young girl. That sounds like a movie we all saw and loved last year, right?
The folks at After Dark Films and Dark Castle think this is a fresh breath of originality unparalleled since Drive cleaned up house with the film community (and I called it my #1 movie of the year). Out of nowhere, Warner Bros. has revved up Getaway for an August 30, 2013 release. Directed by Courtney “Dungeons and Dragons” Solomon (CORRECTION: whoops, I thought it was Doug Hutchison’s child bride) and Yaron Levy, cinematographer on the supposedly very great Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, this one stars Ryan Go…I mean Ethan Hawke as the vengeance-seeking ex-race car driver, Selena Gomez (you read right) as a hacker who assists him, and Jon Voight doing his best Albert Brooks as the villain.
Sounds like a potentially very asinine cross between Drive (modern classic) and Contraband (modern tower of elephant shit at the Bronx Zoo). Sounds like this is going straight to the Redbox.
Oh, silly. It isn’t. August 30 is a Friday, not a Tuesday! This is going theatrical. I hope it does better than The Oogieloves in the BIG Balloon Adventure. No, I really do. I wish it well.
