Just watched a copy of this provided by some pirates in the bay — I have to say, I was impressed. It also made me wonder about the lengths you would have to go to to get this produced and aired on network television without the secret hitting the internet — but man, if some forward thinking producer could make that happen, people would be pissed after they found out the truth — and that’s why someone should do this. I keep thinking of a broadcast on Fox using the FoxNews studio and personalities just to give it an air of authority…wow. Just wow. Do it….do it now!!!

I was 20 when this aired “live” on the BBC. I can remember my mum freaking out and me slowly starting to wonder if this was really real. The broohaha this caused here in the uk was massive at the time and it is still brought up by the media now and then. No one had seen anything like at the time, even though it was only 20 years ago, this was before we all had the net and weren’t as media savvy. This sort of thing could never be made now.

I remember watching it in ’92 – I had to change the channel, so convinced was I that it was real. It caused quite an uproar at the time, especially after it was blamed for the suicide of a mentally unbalanced teenager.
I’ve had it on DVD for a few years now, and always watch it on Halloween.

I was a kid watching this live in 92. It was very much a run of the mill Saturday night live special like so many others around the time focused on special events such as Christmas or Comic Relief. Totally thought it was real as you say because it seemed so hum-drum. Vividly remember the camera panning past a figure quickly who then disappeared. Terrifying. To make it scarier, though Parky (Parkinson) was a beloved and well known late night TV interviewer, the choice of Sarah Greene was particularly canny as she was a Saturday morning kids tv host. So we trusted and believed her. Scary stuff. I saw it once, a young lad in 92 and it’s always stayed with me and most of my generation, let alone my parents! Classic subtle horror tv. Legendary over here I would say, for those who saw it.
