McGreedy is right (if not a bit overboard with the shitstain stuff) — The Hobbit could’ve easily been two movies at the most, and del Toro should’ve done them. No offense at all to PJ, but Tim’s first paragraph sums up what I had figured from the first trailer. Sigh.

Honestly, the combination of an hour’s worth of needless padding plus the downscaling of practical effects and the increase of CGI – not to mention the ridiculous emphasis on this 43.7982674 frames per second garbage – has severely dampened my enthusiasm for this film. I fear what we have here is King Kong’s Peter Jackson and not LOTR Peter Jackson. While I’ll still check it out, looking more likely to be on TV a few years down the road than in theatres this Christmas.

The Hobbit (the book) is much smaller and somewhat more juvenile than LOTR. I wish PJ would had done the brave thing and only make two (or even one) movie out of the book. And I LOVE LOTR and the Hobbit. The fault lies, sadly, with Tolkein who wrote a great book and then wrote a sequel to it that blew it away. Fewer mvies equals less fat to consume and more meat.
