bill-clinton-0810-lgScorsese is enjoying a very fruitful relationship with HBO, the network having produced several of the director’s documentaries and poured a lavish budget into Scorsese’s Boardwalk Empire pilot. That relationship will continue as Marty follows up his last rock-star documentary, George Harrison: Living In The Material World, with another following Bill Clinton.

A look at the presidency and post-presidential work of Clinton, the documentary will involve the man himself, and will catalogue the strong voice he’s maintained in global politics for the past twenty years.

“A towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues, President Clinton continues to shape the political dialogue both here and around the world,” Scorsese said. “Through intimate conversations, I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure.” Added Clinton, “I am pleased that legendary director Martin Scorsese and HBO have agreed to do this film. I look forward to sharing my perspective on my years as President, and my work in the years since, with HBO’s audience.”

Martin-Scorsese

I’d expect you’ll see the doc air on HBO sometime in late 2013, though no date is yet announced. Scorsese is of course wrapping up Wolf Of Wall Street and is also producing a documentary on the life of Roger Ebert, which will be directed by Steve James (Hoop Dreams). He’s also got a biopic of Sinatra in the works, with the potential for it to be a feature film or another HBO collaboration through a mini-series.
