Ain’t gonna front- something about the particular brand of cute, inspirational kids movie Dreamworks is selling here works for me. A snail gifted with all the speed and powers of a tricked out stock car is visually pleasing and has a classic quality to it that I appreciate. A vocal turn like this is also a nice way for Ryan Reynolds to get his footings again after a rough string in 2011 and 2012. I’d call it a palette cleanser for Reynold’s R.I.P.D., but they come out the same day!
Speaking of which, where is an R.I.P.D. trailer?
Anyway, this film features Reynolds along with Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Note Dreamworks slyly roping in the hispanic market with this one- watch for the shrewder studios to start appealing their films to folks who are now buying a quarter of all movie tickets…
