TinTin

The more and more I think about Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin, the more I sorta, kinda love it. The movie was fun, gorgeous and the mo-cap medium allowed Spielberg to do an awful lot of amazing things. The movie was packed with spectacular action sequence followed by spectacular action sequence.

Talk of a sequel has been around since the first film debuted. As you remember, Spielberg directed the first film while Jackson was lined up to direct the second. But then The Hobbit happened and Jackson got tied up. Hobbit duties paired with a cool American reception ($77 million domestically) left many assuming another Tintin just wasn’t in the cards.

Not so, says Jackson. Speaking with BadTaste.it, Jackson said more adventures are on the way once he finishes up his second excursion into Middle-Earth.

As soon as I’m free of The Hobbit, I’ll be going back into doing ‘Tintin.’ It was held up by The Hobbit, but we have every intention of doing another Tintin movie and it’s just waiting on me to be done with these ‘Hobbit’ movies.

I know it wasn’t implied but Jackson’s response makes it seem like he’s completely over The Hobbit (he even jokingly suggests that in the video interview). “I’ll get to Tintin once I’m done with these god damn Hobbit films. Jesus Christ, Tolkien, did you really need to write this much?”

So a second Tintin is on. But when will it debut? Spielberg has previously said the second film was going to premiere in 2015 but that seems highly unlikely. If Jackson is able to leap into Tintin the second after he finishes The Hobbit then we might – might! – see it in 2016. That’s probably for the best because, as you know, 2015 is a bit crowded right now.
