Last year (’round April-ish), we learned from Brawny spokesmodel Ken Marino that The State DVD was nearing completion. It is now June of 2008, and I note the absence of The State DVD on my many DVD shelves. 13 Going on 30‘s still hangin’ out, though. Such a good movie.

Thankfully, I was recently in the proximity of several State members (whilst visiting the set of Andrew T. Samberg’s John Hamburg’s I Love You, Man), so I hit up Joe Lo Truglio – for non-State initiates, he’s the creepy guy who gets his ass kicked by Kevin Corrigan in Superbad – for the latest on one of this year’s (and last year’s) most anticipated DVD releases. Sounds like we’re getting a little something extra for being so mildly impatient:

Q: We keep hearing about The State DVD coming up.

Joe: Oh, yes. Here’s the thing about The State DVD: it was supposed to be out last year. It’s finished, it’s completely packaged, we’ve got commentary and unreleased sketches; it’s a really cool package. But they wanted to wait until we do a special, which right now is slated to happen sometime in the fall for Comedy Central. They wanted to do some kind of cross-promotion when the special comes out. The whole group can’t wait for it to come out.

Q: Is everyone going to be back for it?

Joe: Everyone’s going to be back for the special. We’re very excited for it.

Q: It’s going to be a live show?

Joe: It’ll be a live and remote show. It’ll be similar to the MTV show, but a little bit longer. About an hour-and-a-half. We’re very thrilled. We had a reunion show a month ago that went really well, and some of those sketches will be in there.

That first reunion show was at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles, and I’m still cheesed that I missed it. I’d feel a little better if there were a set date for this televised reunion, but since the DVD’s finished (and the members are as high-profile as they’ve ever been on their own), I feel very confident that it’ll happen before the Moon has a WNBA franchise.
