This is nice. We’re probably a few years off from a new Edgar Wright movie—which is too long, but always worth it—but now we have about five, brand new minutes of the man’s work.

I can’t say for certain that the giant Daft Punk helmets are meant to evoke John Boorman’s Zardoz (they don’t belch guns, sadly), but how can they not be? If only he’d managed to get Pharrell in a red diaper with bandolier suspenders. Alas…

I’m also liking the Swordsman-style dance numbers. This isn’t quite like anything we’ve seen from Wright before, which is great. Music videos are often an excuse to put something on film (or video) that you’ve been dying to shoot but haven’t found the proper context for in a film. You get it out of your system. Like belching a bunch of guns.

Let’s hope the next few years between films have more nuggets like this. Wright is a filmmaker of immense talent, and however much he puts into his films, I always feel like we’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg. This is a lovely core sample.
