FX’s Fargo had a wonderful first season; a season full of Coen-esque schadenfreude, a signature mix of tragedy, comedy, and time. It also had a wonderful cast in Allison Tolman, Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Oliver Platt, Colin Hanks, and Keith Carradine. You may recall that Carradine played ex-cop Lou Solverson, who alluded to some interesting events in his past. Fargo’s second season is taking Lou’s ball and running with it.

It’s 1979 in the same frozen North from season one. Lou Solverson is a Vietnam vet, ex-Navy, now working as a Minnesota State Patrolman. Patrick Wilson will step into Solverson’s boots for this season.

Ted Danson will play Lou’s father-in-law, Hank. He’s the local sheriff and a WWII vet.

The local crime family, the Gerhardts, will be lead by Jean Smart as the matriarch, Floyd.

Also filling out the cast of season two are Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman, Brad Garret, Kieran Culkin, Bokeem Woodbine, Jeffrey Donovan, and Angus Sampson.

Who among them can deliver the quality of performance we saw from Billy Bob Thornton, whose creepy Lorne Malvo was one the best characters on TV last year? I can’t wait to find out this fall.
