HBO logoApple’s “Spring Forward” Event is still happening as I type this, but the first item on the agenda was something Apple nerds like me didn’t expect: HBO’s standalone streaming service.

HBO’s CEO Richard Plepler took the stage during the keynote and introduced the crowd to HBO Now, which will come to Apple TV before it hits other platforms. The service will arrive in early April (in time for the Game of Thrones and Silicon Valley premieres) at a cost $14.99 a month. What will the service include? Plepler says “all programming — past, present, and future”.

More details will emerge, but hopefully this means that great shows like Thrones and Silicon Valley won’t be pirated as much.

Oh, and Apple TV has just dropped to $69.
