Unmade movies make for great stories. David Hughes’ The Greatest Sci-Fi Movies Never Made and Tales from Development Hell are frequent re-reads for me, and we’ve recently been blessed with a few intriguing documentaries on the subject, such as Jodorowsky’s DuneLost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau, and the upcoming The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened?. Now it looks like we’ll be getting another exploration into an aborted production.

George Miller was all set to make Justice League Mortal back in 2007 (he even had the majority of the film casted), but the fates aligned against him and the project was scrapped. Director Ryan Unicomb is now determined to examine the film’s collapse as well as reveal never-before-seen costumes and concept art. There’s no release date yet for Unicomb’s doc, but we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

After the unmitigated masterpiece that is Mad Max: Fury Road, seeing into any George Miller production should be exciting. I don’t believe in Heaven, but if were to exist, I’d want it to include a movie theater that plays all the films that were never made. I’m certain I’d be there for the opening night of Justice League Mortal, if just to see Hugh Keays-Byrne as the Martian Manhunter. Yup, that was going to happen.
