If you’re on board with a Deadpool movie, then watching this red-band trailer will tickle your jimmies quite a bit. If you’re not on board with a Deadpool movie, then watching this red-band trailer is probably the equivalent of having someone take a cheese grater to your eyeballs.

Me? I’m somewhere in the middle. The obvious draws of this movie are the irreverent humor and juvenile vulgarity, and I’m liking all of that quite a lot. The part that has be a teeny bit worried is how cheap this movie looks. No one expected Deadpool to be a gargantuan visual undertaking, but the quick glimpses we get of some one-on-one showdowns look dishearteningly pedestrian. There’s still lots of time between now and the February release date, so I’m betting they spend that time on some serious post-production work.

But, at the end of the day, this is a movie that most people have pretty much made up their minds about. Whether or not it’s able to break out to a wider audience remains to be seen, but if Fox can really sell the self-deprecating humor of the film (read: push Ryan Reynolds’ presence HARD), they may just have a sleeper hit on their hands.
