I love Zoolander. Dumb comedy is extremely difficult to pull off, but Ben Stiller managed to do just that with his male model character and the world he inhabited. Will Zoolander 2 manage to be a good comedy sequel? This trailer shows an inordinate amount of promise. Benedict Cumberbatch’s androgynous newcomer All, Derek’s mispronunciation of “lame,” the Justin Bieber cameo, jail-suit Mugatu (with a piano key necktie tattoo!), and the attempt to recreate the throwing star scene were all enormous highlights that made me giggle like an idiot.

I’m fairly in the bag with this flick, but when it comes to stupid humor I am not an impartial judge. I won’t deny laughing at the horrifically scripted Dumber and Dumber To and I’ll go a step farther and out myself as someone who found some minor enjoyment out of Movie 43. There’s a certain type of juvenile humor that gets me, but it’s not always easy to nail. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the sequel didn’t stuff all of its laughs into this trailer. But hey, if this doesn’t work out, I’ll have Gods of Egypt in the following weeks to fill my monthly hysterical laughter quota.
