David Fincher’s next project is unexpected – a TV series. He’s teaming up with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button screenwriter Eric Roth to do a US version of the novel and subsequently acclaimed UK political miniseries House of Cards.

The British version is set in the waning days of the Thatcher regime and is about a scheming politician who wants to become the head of his party and the Prime Minister. The successful miniseries spawned two sequels, but was finite. The American version sounds like a standard open-ended show. Sort of like an evil version of The West Wing.

The show is being produced by MRC and it doesn’t have a network yet; I’m assuming that if Fincher directs the pilot they’ll get a deal toot sweet.
