Aren’t you sick of post-apocalyptic wastelands? It’s become far too common of a setting for videogames, brown and grey dirt-strewn worlds with hints of an old civilization scattered here and there. It looks like the upcoming Enslaved bucks the trend. Namco just sent over these new screens that should immediately pique your interest.

Look- colors!

The official synopsis:

Enslaved is a post-apocalyptic retelling of the classic 400-year old novel ‘Journey to the West’. Set 150 years from now, the world has been ruined by war and ecological disaster with only a handful of survivors remaining.

In Enslaved, players take on the role of Monkey, a strong and athletic, yet solitary figure, who been captured by one of the mysterious slave ships, which harvest the remaining population and take them out west never to return. Trip, a technologically savvy young woman who has also been imprisoned by the same ship, manages to escape. She quickly realizes that Monkey, with his raw strength and power, is her only hope to survive the perilous journey back to her home. She hacks into a slave headband and fits it on Monkey, linking them together – if she dies, he dies… Her journey has now become his and Monkey must now travel west alongside Trip as they traverse a demolished world, under constant threat of capture and mortal peril.

Alex Garland (28 Days Later and Sunshine) helped with the script, and Andy Serkis is doing motion capture and providing the voice for Monkey.

The game looks to be an action/adventure title that focuses on puzzles and exploring the world almost as much as it does on action. Developer Ninja Theory are the guys behind Heavenly Sword, a fun if incredibly brief title, so you can expect the hand to hand action to control somewhat similar. You will also have ranged attacks (as evidenced by the screen below), and your character will have the ability to rip off attachments on your robotic foes and use them for yourself, as you can see in the last screen.

Enslaved is planned for release late 2010.
