Fox’s prequel to Planet of the Apes, Rise of the Apes, has its human star – James Franco. The actor signed on to play a young scientist who breaks the rules to try and find a way to cure his father’s Alzheimer’s. Instead he ends up creating a hyperintelligent chimp whose ancestors will one day hose down Charlton Heston.
Franco seems like a fine choice for the role, if only because on paper the character is pretty flavorless and he can do something interesting with it.
Shooting stars July 5th in Canada.
