When someone writes a biography of the insanely talented Spanish director Nacho Vigalondo, I hope they get in touch with me. I’ve been around Nacho when he breaks into drunken karaoke, and I think I have some juicy tales to tell.
Nacho directed Timecrimes, one of the best time travel movies I’ve ever seen, and a true low budget wonder. He’s kept busy with short films (and annual returns to Austin Texas’ Fantastic Fest), but he hasn’t had a follow-up feature… yet! The good news is that Nacho has not just one but three projects percolating, and one looks to be going ahead this summer.
That film will be called Extraterrestrial, and Twitch got the details on what it is: As you might expect from Vigalondo, the film is a sort of anti-Spielberg take on alien invasion, the entire scenario playing out from the perspective of a trio of young people in an apartment who realize that the city has been evacuated thanks to the large UFO hovering just miles away. As much a romantic comedy as a science fiction picture this one will be light on the effects and heavy on character interaction.
That will be a Spanish film. He has a second Spanish movie in the works, being described as a big film, but that’s still very secret. And then he has an English-language film, Gangland, that’s still ramping up.
I can’t wait to see what Nacho has up his sleeve with Extraterrestrial. I hope he can bring something to show us at this year’s Fantastic Fest.
BTW, I stole the image from Twitch, but it seems like a perfect Nacho picture, so I had to use it.

Timecrimes was the shit, I'd love to see anything from this guy.
Love TIMECRIMES. You can find some of his (awesome) shorts on YouTube, including a couple with English subs: 7:35 IN THE MORNING and DOMINGO.
TimeCrimes was pretty good, but not the masterpiece some people want it to be. Devin, you´re a friend of your friends and that´s nice, keep giving helping hands to promising filmmakers.
