I
think we all need at least one really nice positive thing about the
entertainment business every single day of the year, including weekends.
Sometimes it may be something simple, like a video that showcases
something fun and sometimes it may be a movie poster that embraces the
aesthetic we all want Hollywood to aspire to. Sometimes it may be a
long-winded diatribe. Sometimes it’ll be from the staff and extended
family of CHUD.com. Maybe even you readers can get in on it. So, take
this to the bank. Every day, you will get a little bit of positivity
from one column a day here. Take it with you. Maybe it’ll help you
through a bad day or give folks some fun things to hunt down in their
busy celluloid digesting day.

What I’m Thankful For:

The District 9 Baby Alien.

He find something…

He fix it!

This little adorable creature is not only a much-needed bit of heart in the cold and vicious District 9 (let’s go ahead and call it a classic) but also a fantastically real little gentleman by way of the special effects and interaction with his environment. When Wikus van de Merwe (the Sharlto of it all) first meets the little guy he’s outside of his little shanty playing in the sand. It’s so real and so cute, and something about the way his legs are splayed that just screams ‘reality’. There’s no showing off and in the horrible circumstances and conditions the ‘Prawns’ are living in, the film gets so much mileage from stuff like this little fellow playing with detritus to pass the time. You couple that with the way he talks and he’s irresistible. I cannot tell you how much it cheers me up to hear “I find something! I fix it!” uttered at the office. It’s magic!

Plus, he now has his own Facebook page.

…and for this I am very thankful.
