365 days of Sci-Fi

From the mind behind the mega-hit Syfy show you’ve probably never heard of (EUREKA)
comes a tribute to all those no-budget Syfy original movies and the “so
bad, they’re good” films that inspired them.  Move over Roger Corman,
step back Ed Wood, make way on your weekend programming schedule Mr.
Stern, because here comes Andrew Cosby’s 365 DAYS OF SCI-FI.

And it’s all happening here!  Each day, your friends at CHUD will
bring you a brand new bad movie pitch — the best of the worst title
Cosby can come up with, no matter where he’s at or what he’s doing, rain
or shine, drunk or sober.   That’s a whole year of the quality concepts
you’ve come to expect from the network that brought you MANSQUITO and
SHARKTOPUS.

Day 1Day TwoDay Three

And now… DAY FOUR:

Everyone loves a good dinosaur horror movie (right?), and no one does them like Syfy.  In fact, no one does them… period.  A shame really, because they’re the epitome of the “So Bad It’s Good” sub-genre.  Truth be told, this whole experiment was partly inspired by one of my favorites, Brook Durham’s MAMMOTH, so set your Tivo for stun next time it airs. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

That being said, today’s little diddy is actually in honor of a more recent Syfy original, TRIASSIC ATTACK, which also happens to be the feature directorial debut of my good friend Colin Ferguson (perhaps better known to some of you as Eureka’s affable Sheriff Carter).

Way to go, Colin. This one’s for you.

“Terror flies by night!”

Pitch:
While studying dinosaur DNA and its potential use in treating cancer, a brilliant young medical researcher is himself diagnosed with a rare and inoperable brain tumor.  Desperate, he initiates clinical trials early, using himself as the test subject.  Results are promising at first, as his tumor quickly shrinks, then vanishes without a trace.  He’s cured!  Unfortunately, the experimental treatment also comes with a few unexpected side effects, and our poor researcher soon finds out the hard way that Red Bull isn’t the only thing that gives you wings…

Nick Says: I imagine storming into the financing office with a signed offer sheet from Lochlyn Munro and telling them “Now give me my 800k to make my vision of “Jurassic Silkwood“. Then I’d take the check, go on a Lost Weekend in Tahiti and make the movie with the rest .

This article series is in no way affiliated with SyFy. This is a
creative experiment and ongoing test of nerves that is perpetrated by a
few insane people and should be construed as such. If for some reason
these people actually make one of these as a feature it must be chalked
up to their own lunacy. These are the intellectual property of Mr.
Andrew Cosby and not the property of CHUD.com or SyFy.
