I’m going to warn you right now that this is not a great clip that’s emerged from Melancholia, right before its Cannes debut. Anyone familiar with Von Trier knows that his films require a linear investment of attention, as they continually build on their own snowballing sense of dread. Yanking an oblique conversation about the world being evil out of context isn’t a great idea, I don’t think. That said, you get to see Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg in action, and at least get a taste of the beautiful photography. Of course, there’s also the excellent full trailer for that, but if you care to have a peek…

I’m eager to hear what the Cannes reactions are to the film, even if I’m likely to completely disregard them. You can not simply be told what a Von Trier film is, you have to see it for yourself.
