Simply delighted to see GH place first, and other than C+A I’m pretty excited to find most of these turning up in a list of the summer’s biggest bombs (Take that, Kevin James!)

A few years from now, I believe GREEN LANTERN will be looked upon as “unfairly maligned.” I found it to be a serviceable film. Not perfect by any means, but not an utter disaster either, and undeserving of all the vitriol. Maybe it’s because I’ve never been a huge GL fan so I didn’t feel the film ruined/bastardized the character in any way. I’d watch GREEN LANTERN a thousand times before sitting through TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON again, that’s for damn sure.

Ouch! 350 million spent on Green Lantern? Wtf? Martin Campbell, if you even get to direct anything again, please do real stuff. You were very vocal that you hated the shit out of all the digital effects while making this and clearly that hatred showed in the final product. Your Bond films rocked though!

Shame about The Beaver; I genuinely enjoyed the film. Also, Whinnie The Poo bombed because Disney did absolutely nothing to market it.

Good article. One minor quibble: THE BEAVER opened on 22 screens but actually maxed out on 168, meaning it played throughout the country before getting yanked. Still a bomb, either way you slice it.

It was, but I cannot claim complete ownership. While researching the figures half of the time “Hornet” was listed among my “Lantern” searches, and so I used it as a tweak on the glut of hero movies this year.

Well, these days I don’t even know if The Green Hornet from January would be considered a bomb or not. I know that percentage-wise just judging by gross vs. listed budget, Hornet at least made money if you take in worldwide gross, while Green Lantern hasn’t managed to do that.

I didn’t notice it at first, but once it was pointed out, it’s a pretty funny mistake to screw up the title of the number one movie on the list. If it was intentional, I guess it’d be funny in the fact that-IMO-there have been way too many superhero movies on the big screen as of late.

My hope for humanity rises a little knowing Zoo Keeper and Glee 3D both are considered failures. I’m saddened that Cowboys & Aliens and Green Lantern are considered failures, considering they’re concepts that on paper, should’ve work, and in reality, could’ve worked, had they not been man handled by all involved, and maybe (at least in green lantern’s case) had someone at the helm who had some affinity for the material. I don’t think you can count the Beaver, as it was never seriously touted as Mel’s comeback/make good movie. It might’ve be lobbed about as that in early stages, but after his total meltdown last year, it was intentionally swept under the rug and is more direct to video movie than it is arthouse release.
