Martin Scorsese’s Hugo will premiere tonight at the New York Film Festival, in what has become the worst-kept secret in the city. The filmmaker will debut a not yet 100% complete version of the film for the festival crowd, and to introduce the film they’ve released the hybrid introduction/trailer seen above. The peek at the film feels like a much better look at the world of Hugo than we’ve seen before,  and definitely promises gorgeous imagery shot as dynamically as any Scorsese film should be. This trailer opens up the scale a little bit as well.

I remain excited for any movie that peers into the early history of motion pictures, and my fingers are crossed that word from the festival crowd tonight matches my enthusiasm.
