Yep. We got a John Carter movie. Weird thing is, I’m still having to explain what it is and where it came from to nearly every non-geek I run into. That’s the uphill battle, and I truly hope there’s at least a mention before it comes out that it comes from “one of the most beloved science fiction and fantasy authors of all time”. The pedigree of this thing is taking a back seat to the pretty leading man and the pretty pictures of crafts and monsters.

I know three folks who have seen it. All three had a good time. That gives me hope. I’m not a Taylor Kitsch guy on my best day, so to hear some good stuff about Andrew (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) Stanton’s live action debut is good indeed.

We are lucky to be a part of the promotion of the film and we have a small allotment of tickets for lucky folks in the cities below. I’ll be mailing physical copies so please include your mailing address. Answer the following questions to the best of your ability:

1. John Carter is based on a character from a series of pulp novels from days of yore. For genre buffs it’s gold, but for the general public it’s just another way to spend two hours. How important is the brand’s lineage to you?

2. Do you think this should have been sold as the telling of a great literary work or is it best to have Disney pushing it more to their base?

3. This movie has Mark Strong, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Willem Dafoe, Ciaran Hinds, and Bryan Cranston. Is it wrong that I’m most excited about seeing all these great characters?

4. What do we need to do more CHUD?
