Great titles, Dahlia! I'm officially calling shenanigans if Craven ends up trying to rip one or both of them off.

Bishop... it probably seems like I hated the flick, but in all honesty, I didn't. I was just underwhelmed by it; due partly, I think, to my rather gilded recollections of 1-3. I just watched through the entire series again for the first time in ten years the other day, and I'd love to do a "Franchise Me"-style column giving my updated take on the lot of them.

Also, you're right about the opening. I meant to mention it in the review, but it slipped my mind somehow. I think it would have crossed the line into true brilliance if they had taken it even further and done a THIRD fake-out teaser. The only problem I have with the opening as it stands is that I think, after two false starts, the real teaser needed to REALLY be something special, and it just didn't deliver. I actually thought the alternate opening in the deleted scenes was better, as a matter of fact.

I also remember this as a decent film, but that's about all I remember - a good way to waste a couple of hours but completely forgettable.

I think I'll skip 5cream and Scr6am.

Man, this is the best Scream flick since the original. It's not scary, but how could it be? Nothing since the opening sequence of part one has provided any real tension. What's clever is that it pulls the same bait-and-switch trick the original did, only improved. That movie was marketed as a Drew Barrymore vehicle, and it totally screwed with you. This one was marketed as a reboot, and it totally screwed with you again, intentionally killing off the new cast and kept the old cast so that they could say "Fuck reboots. Who fuckin' needs 'em? The original is still good, and that's enough." Some funny jokes throughout, too, even if the horror fails. Big thumbs up from me.
I'm also grateful that there's no bullshit cliffhanger, which is something the film almost ended with. I hate that shit - you can never guarantee you'll get to resolve it, so don't do it. And they don't. They flinch, and WISELY so.
