If you’re Paramount right now, there’s no good way to spin this. G.I. JOE: Retaliation has built up a surprising amount of goodwill thanks to a solid trailer. That all gets squandered now, as the film gets pushed back all the way to March 29th, 2013 in the name of dreaded 3D post conversion.

That’s likely bullshit, though. The Hollywood Reporter intimates that this delay might have something to do with Battleship‘s epic failure last weekend. That doesn’t ring true either. There’s a finished sequel to a film that banked $300 million worldwide that’s getting yanked one month before release. Which begs the question: how terrible can G.I. JOE: Retaliation be that could cause Paramount to take such drastic action?

Regardless, the film that you’ll see in March 2013 will likely be very different than the one that would have been released June 29th.  Paramount is going to try to fix whatever’s wrong in the coming months by way of reshoots. But at least it will be in 3D, right?

Right?
