Come on, the thing with the hammers was EXACTLY what I would have done when I was eight. But yes, I agree, I’m not big on most Criterion cover art.

It probably was a little harsh, but I really do wish they’d do a take on the original artwork instead of hiring some twee alt-comic artist or some minimalist to make something out of construction paper or scribble some cursive. Give me evocative photography or a look at some foreign territory’s amazing key art – or craft something that really nails the tone (the pulp cover of Kiss Me Deadly springs instantly to mind).

The Blow Out cover is awesome. Chungking Express is fantastic. Something like the Seven Samurai is just lazy minimalist blandness. I get the reference, but it doesn’t sing. Most of them don’t.

LOL @ hard-boiled eggs and a flute. Ghost Rider 2… It is really really good. Or at least I thought it was. It rocks as a double feature with Drive Angry.
