That seemed to be the initial reaction that is probably still the most prevalent, not so much backlash. It's certainly misunderstood, but if anything, it seems like critically ST is finally starting to get the love it deserves.
Still my favorite Lynch. I love the midnight movie/art films from this era that were unapologetic art films. This movie still feels dangerous, in the same way Jorodowski's films do, or Possession.
