Vulture just broke an exclusive today that the far-too-long-in-development Bill & Ted sequel is a lot closer to existing than we think. We all know Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have been down for it since about 2 days after Freaked happened, and that’s not changing any time soon, but the exclusive also states Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson, the good men responsible for the first two films, have a script ready that they wrote on spec, “in an attempt to ensure a take that would address where [Bill and Ted] are in their lives today as opposed to being a reboot or remake“. They’ve also managed to nab a director–Galaxy Quest‘s Dean Parisot–and they’ve already been shopping this little bundle of awesome around for a studio to co-finance with the still-on-thin-fiscal-ice MGM.
There’s still obstacles, of course. The main one is that Parisot’s currently set to direct the sequel to RED nobody asked for, and that starts shooting in Spring 2013. But these are still the first solid signs that the pieces are falling into place, and more importantly, Solomon and Matheson are sticking to the Middle-Aged Bill And Ted concept like glue, which is the only way to make this movie work.
It’s looking pretty certain that Wyld Stallions will be reuniting on the big screen, people. And God help ye, the children born after Kurt Cobain died, if you’re confused why that’s great news for every living soul on Earth. And Mars. Station.
