Till Lindemann leaves Rammstein.

Emanuel Fialik of Pilgrim Management GmbH, which represents German industrial metal pioneers RAMMSTEIN, has issued the following press release:

"On the 13th of July 2007 the industrial gothic top act RAMMSTEIN announces that after the release of the next studio album, which is about to get finished, the current singer and frontman Till Lindemann will leave the band.

"Till's decision is mainly based on the increasing inharmoniousness within the band and was well deliberated. He will head now for other challenges which can be a solo career or maybe a new project (as of his own words).

"The band decided not to quit but announce a new singer. There is a clear statement coming from Richard Kruspe and Christoph Schneider that 'nobody ever can replace Till Lindemann' but since 'we have still so much fun doing RAMMSTEIN we looked for a new singer which is charismatic in his own way without copying Till.'

"The new singer which was found and signed to be the new RAMMSTEIN frontman is the co-founder and ex-member of the electro industrial act KMFDM and current singer of SLICK IDIOT — En Esch — who recently moved to Berlin to join the band.

"We all will miss Till Lindemann who gave us many years of joy by listening to his unique grinding voice. Please welcome the talented En Esch — Till's footsteps are big, but maybe he can dry our tears rapidly."

Jesus fuck. I love early En Esch-fronted KMFDM as much as the next guy, but how about his solo album when he kind of revealed himself to be much more "techno" than industrial which resulted in the softening of KMFDM?

That said, "Rosenrot" isn't exactly the hardest Rammstein record (what the FUCK was up with that shitty duet "Stirb Nicht vor Mir" wih Sharleen Spiteri?) and if that's a direction En Esch may help pull them back from, fantastic.

But if this is just another step in turning Rammstein into whatever-the-fuck-happened-to-Metallica (or worse, that new Marilyn Manson album), at least there is a great backlog of material and some of the greatest fucking live bootlegs around.

Even what that band strays into hilariously over-the-top goth territory, Lindemann's voice made it work. Without him, that Wagnerian quality to the band's music that made me fucking love them is probably gone.

Because unless he's been hiding vocal talent all these years, Esch isn't even remotely able to fill that hole, judging from his prior work in KMFDM.

Oh well.

Strangely, I believe that Esch is hiding a pretty strong voice talent that's far more evident in live shows than on the albums. I just think he's going to make Rammstein into the Thrill Kill Kult..

If Rammstein really wanted to truly bad ass again, they would've tried to recruit Laibach's Milan Fras to take over - though, with his mad political and artistic bent, I doubt he'd be interested.

You say this as though it would be a bad thing. I, for one, dearly miss the old Kult. The Electric Hellfire Club is no substitute.

I hate to admit it as I once was a big fan (again, particularly of their live shows), but I feel there have now been more bad TKK albums than good.

Rosenrot wasn't so bad, I listened to it quite a bit when it came out.

The fact though will never change that Rammstein has always been a dumbed-down and childish version of Laibach, a far superior organization.
But as Milan said in an interview years ago:

"Laibach does not believe in originality… Therefore, Rammstein could not 'steal' much from us. They simply let themselves get inspired by our work, which is absolutely a legitimate process. We are glad that they made it. In a way, they have proven once again that a good 'copy' can make more money on the market than the 'original.' Anyhow, today we share the territory: Rammstein seem to be a kind of Laibach for adolescents and Laibach are Rammstein for 'grown-ups.'"

This might not be true, since Blabbermouth is the only site that has reported this and it seems they have taken the story down.

Say what you will about Rosenrot, but you have to give props for the fact it features a song called "Te Quiero Puta" and the band then sings in spanish.

I can't say I'm terribly surprised, I thought Lindermann was planning to retire anyway to spend time with his kids.

And there's a mariachi band playing on it too, it's great song.

Also, RAMMSTEIN's Management Says Singer Departure Announcement Was A Hoax

I just came to mention that as well.

According to The Gauntlet, RAMMSTEIN's management has dismissed as a hoax a press release that was issued on the band's behalf announcing the departure of singer Till Lindemann and addition of En Esch (KMFDM, PIGFACE, SLICK IDIOT) as his replacement. "[The news that Till would be leving the band following the completion of the band's new record] is not true and was not released by either band or management," a group representative said. "We have no idea where this comes from. The band is writing a new album at present."

On one side it's good that Lindemann stayed. But I really, really wanted to find out how Rammstein fronted by En Esch would sound like.

Imagine Rammstein being translated into Parseltongue, and you've probably got the general idea.
