I was going to say "The Day The Clown Cried"- is there a thread around here for completely lost movies?

At least the rest of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is somewhere out there.
Somewhere.

The "autobiography" section of [B]Storytelling would be interesting to watch. Its a shame that Solondz and James Van Der Beek caved on that.

That's a good point, AIDS...wasn't it Da Beek's agents? Something about how he's not allowed to play gay?

That would be surprising. He did star in The Rules of Attraction.

Speaking of wich, I'd love to see the lost footage of The Rules of Attraction restored in a definitive cut.

This one begins and ends with The Twilight Zone Movie, doesn't it?

The crash footage was shown on TV back in the 80s, if that's what you're asking about.

The Twilight Zone footage has been on the Internet for years. YouTube had it last I checked. I always wanted to know how Landis had intended to end his segment (had the tragedy not happened!)

Regardless, the footage is very disturbing stuff...

Aliens - Burke cocoon scene. The producer of the Alien Quadrilogy confirmed its existence, but Cameron won't release it for reasons unknown.

John Carpenter's The Thing - the alternate endings... one for TV where you supposedly see a dog run off, and the one where MacReady gets a blood test and isn't infected.

I've always been curious about the "raid on the droid control ship" scene that was shot for the climax of Attack of the Clones. That could be fun.

Seconding Greed, King Kong, and... Explorers.

How about Dreyer's Passion of Joan of Arc? The original was lost in a fire and the version we know today was assembled from outtakes. Baffling to think that movie could be any better than it is.

Lieutenenant Kije, if only to learn how Prokofiev's famous music is supposed to play in it. Accordng to this the film still exists, so why is it so completely unavailable?

If I remember correctly, Rules didn't have Van Der Beek giving hardcore to some other guy like Storytelling does.

I think Van Der Beek's crew did put the breaks on the footage. For some reason, Solondz strongly denies that Van Der Beek was in the film at all when test screening reviews refute those statements.

James Van Der Beek never publicly commented on the scenes, but Dawson Leery said that "Storytelling was nothing special."

"Fire Walk With Me" is my dream one. Every year or two something pops up to say "No, really, we mean it, it's coming this time!" only for it to sink without a trace again.

My holy grail of lost footage, most definitely.

I'd love to see the 3 hour cut of Planes, Trains & Automobiles. $10 says we see that footage in the eventual SE dvd.

I guess we can talk about lost movies here then. I'd love to see Johnny Depp's directorial debut "The Brave", which I believe showed once at Cannes and got buried forever. It stars himself, Marlon Brando, Luis Guzman and Frederic Forrest and it is about an American Indian who wants to star in his own snuff film.

There's a James Brooks film called "I'll Do Anything" that was a musical with songs from Prince, but oddly they cut the songs from the released version and had it as a straight drama. Years ago, ABC needed to fill a Saturday night, so they actually showed the musical version, though I haven't heard from it since.

I believe the story was to have ended with Morrow's character rescuing the two Vietnamese children and finally being transported back to his home.

Unfortunately, the footage may have decomposed.

I thought candy had an almost indefinite shelf-life.

I'm with the BTTF footage.

I would like to have seen what Cruising might have been. Footage is supposedly lost.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could have sworn I heard that Hughes had a VHS copy of the original cut. I know he does for The Breakfast Club, but I thought he also had the original Planes in his archives.

Oh, and the various screen-tests filmed for Tim Burton's Superman Lives back in 1997. Supposedly, Nicholas Cage did one in full-costume and Nicholson did one as Lex Luthor. Can anyone confirm this?

Twilight Zone does indeed end with Morrow saving the kids, but Landis' screenplay was much different and had Morrow being marched off into a concentration camp at the end.

It was the producers that insisted Morrow should redeem himself at the end and that led to Landis hastily rewriting the ending and we all know the rest...

Funnily enough, because of that whole thing, Spielberg had to abandon his plans to shoot 'The Monsters Are Due On Maple St' and make 'Kick The Can' instead.

Now that I know it exists, all I want to see is the original, ultra offensive version of Bad Santa.
