Grindhouse coming to DVD, yet, not... - Page 3

Yeah, Ratty! I'm holdin out! All the extras in the world aren't worth waiting to see this thing as a double feature again. Fuck you, Harvey.
I had ordered Death Proof just because it was the only one I wanted to revisit. It gave me a whole new appreciation for Grindhouse as its own entity.

So now it's cancelled and Grindhouse joins Kill Bill in the "fuck you, I'll wait" category. And Three Kings. For fuck's sake, can I please get a non-snapper Three Kings.
I just hope it doesn't take 3 years to release like Kill Bill.
I couldnt hold off buying this. It was required that I own this now, even though I know the version I really want is coming eventually.
Ditto. Fluff pieces and all. Still waiting for it to arrive though. Most of those who enjoyed it in theaters seem to think the extended cut is too... well, extended. Interested to see for myself.
I bought the KILL BILL discs, because they were what I saw and loved in the theater. I'm curious about THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR, but not anxious for it.

I'll be buying GRINDHOUSE when a DVD of what I saw and loved in the theater arrives. Not this the-parts-are-less-than-the-sum bullshit.

Don't forget Quentin Tarantino's eye-stabbing is straight out of Zombie.

Picked up the steelbook today. I like that Death Proof is still presented as it was in Grindhouse (extended cut notwithstanding), complete with that "Feature Presentation" snipe and the B.C. Restricted cougar.

Edit: Oh, and here's Stuntman Mike with a scar in the second half...you know, after it fucking says onscreen it's fourteen months later.

You know I rented this last night and I really enjoyed it. I liked it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than I thought I would but I couldn't imagine watching it again and again like pulp fiction or Kill Bill. It's a shame about the trailers since I never got to see them becuase my theatre didn't get Grindhouse.

After watching it again, I can't say that I would put the 2nd half timeline in front of the first half. Especially after Earl McGraw says he'll bust Mike's ass if he sees Mike do something similar in his jurisdiction again, after which they cut directly to a card that says "Lebanon, Tennessee" (and I actually know some folks that live in Lebanon), then the "14 Months Later..." card.

Finally watched the new cut. I sort of spent the whole time picking out differences, but I did notice that the dialogue sections seemed to really wear out the people who were seeing the movie for the first time with me. And yeah, I have to agree, this movie didn't need to push two hours. The conversation in the car at the beginning needed to be trimmed, the lap dance was sorta hot but ultimately not really needed, and the first couple scenes with the second set of girls were a bit long to begin with in the Grindhouse cut.

However, I did really enjoy the new stuff in the middle with McGraw, and the new beginning of the second half in Lebanon. It fleshed out the second set of girls a bit more, gave Mike more stuff to do, and the new version of Mike taking pictures of the girls outside the airport was pretty creepy. Am I crazy or was that scene pretty much lifted exactly from the opening of Bird With the Crystal Plumage?
Yep. Straight out of the opening scene of BIRD. And just to emphasize it, Tarantino uses the same Morricone theme, "Plumes of Crystal."

Loved Death Proof on its own. Watching it second time, its still very much a Tarantino film, full of meta-commentary and some showy camera tricks, especially in the 2nd half, but that 1st half is pure grindhouse. Although... maybe the acting is all grindhouse. I don't mind it since its laidback, but I can see why some people are turned off by it.
I didn't like the longer cut, and really, I just don't think I can watch the film outside of the whole "Grindhouse" package. I think the short running time left the film with (imo) a more suitable emptiness.

FWIW, I rented this at Hollywood Video. Only mention that because I thought the Weinsteins had some exclusive shit with Blockbuster. Is that still the case?
Hastings had a few copies for rent.

I thought so too. But I'll definitely be buying these separate releases USED to save money, and get the double-feature release a few years from now when it finally comes out.

Not quite what you wanted, but you get a free movie.

Canadian Chewers: does Future Shop have the steelbook of Planet Terror or not? I don't get paid until Thursday and haven't been to FS lately, but they don't have the Steelbook on their site and they apparently canceled pre-orders. Since I made a point of going there and paying five extra bucks for the steelbook of Death Proof, this is some grade-A bullshit.

I got this at Circuit City and used the $5 off coupon from Death Proof and got the discs for $11.99 + tax. I also got a free movie ticket to The Mist worth $12.

I enjoyed the extended cut too and think it stands fine on it's own (though it was more fun as a double feature in a theater). The only thing I didn't care were most of the glitches. They made sense in the theater - acting as if the reel or projectionist some how messed up. Having it glitch in my home seemed out of place. The bad print/transfer stuff was fine, but the glitching didn't work for me outside of the theater.

I have no interest in the separate DVDs. I want to see what I saw in the theaters in its entirety, trailers included. Paying for two full-priced DVDs and not even getting the entire package is too much to ask. Given that the movie was fun but not mind-blowing, I can wait as long as it takes to see the full version again.

For TRUE "Death Proof" fans:

It's actually pretty nifty.
