Its bizarre, isn't it? To once again have a tv series that you actually look forward too? Not since the 80's have I had this much interest in a television show. Sure, there have been plenty that I have watched and liked, but to plan ahead and think about this much, its been a long while. I found a copy of this week's tv guide at work, with little story on Lost, and read it, I found myself becoming literally giddy at the mention of more mysterious goings on.
I'm still unclear what time the new season starts. I thought it started at 9pm but I just heard on television that it's a 2 HOUR EVENT so I'm kind of confused. I know that new show starts at 10pm so any chewers know if the 8pm Lost is worth watching?
It looks like the first hour is a clips show:

Quote:
"LOST: Past, Present & Futureā€ will explore the series in a way that will bring new viewers up to date -- but which current viewers will also find illuminating.
Yes which is why they shouldn't lie and say it is a 2 hour event. But oh well im just glad that the new season is finally starting.
Seriously? They're still milking that lame-as-all-hell clip show shit?

Just watched all of season three this weekend, and I can definitely say that I much prefer bearded, drunken-stupor Jack to island Jack.
Why is it lame? One, it's the only way for them to bring in new viewers, and two, you don't have to watch it.
Clips show? Boo. I understand the need for it, don't get me wrong, but I was hoping for some two hour Lost extravaganza.

At least I don't have to rush out of work and catch the early train home now!
What I think is lame is them toting it as a "two hour event" rather than just saying "a clip show then the actual episode." Though saying that wouldn't get half as many viewers.

It's a shame that Richard guy won't be returning. The way they just so casually dropped the "Oh by the way, I'm immortal", coupled with the actor going "Yeah, Richard is about 400 years old" makes me go "buwha-hubba-wha?"

My money's on us learning a lot more about the monster (and the Island itself, including that four-toed statue). Makes sense; season two, it was the hatch. Season three, it was the others.

I also want to see how they explain how Locke goes from knifing someone in the back (granted, it appears that the person isn't who they said they were), holding Jack at gunpoint, demanding him not to contact help, etc...to...telling all the castaways what to do. After all that, coupled with blowing up the submarine, I wouldn't trust him to hold a door open for me.
He's season 1 Locke, dammit! Respect, fool!

Don't tell me who I can't knife in the back!
You must spread some reput-oh wait. Shit.

What the hell? Richard? Which one was Richard? I missed something here, dammit. Immortal Others are, like, the tits. It's not Jacob, right? Who's Richard?

off to search the Lost-pedia on this sucker.....

Batmanuel.

During the previews before Cloverfield this past weekend, the theater played the "Let's All Go To The Lobby" short. You know, the one with the dancing hot dogs, popcorn and assorted movie fare. Except, in this instance, the lead food item was carrying a sign with the Hanso foundation insignia embossed on it. I thought this was silly greatness.

Nah, if we're only getting 8 hours, let's make it last!
Richard hasn't been totally and completely dropped from the show, has he? I thought he just wasn't going to get that much screen time this season.
I reckon the guy who plays Richard has landed a role on another show so it is likely that there are some scheduling problems to work around. However I think this guy is fairly important to the overall mythology of Lost. He seems to be very closely tied to the island in some way, therefore I doubt he is out of the picture.

And another thing I stumbled upon that just made me go "what the fuck?" in a serious way:
Lost Mobisode 13
Now this might be considered a spoiler. I dunno if these mobisodes are considered canon but if so this one just blew my mind. So you might wanna be careful clicking that link but it may be the closest thing you will ever get to a Vincent flashback. Thoughts anyone?

I liked to call him Guyliner Guy. That dude wore more eyeliner than any chick on the island. It's not clear he's immortal, but he looked exactly the same when Ben (as a kid) first met him as he does in the present day. Also, he is one of the Hostiles - the original inhabitants- who "purged" the Dharma Initiative from the island.

I am actually kinda hoping Season 4 is about the Hostiles rather than the boat people. Unless, of course, they are one and the same.

Fuck's sake! And, what Diva said! And, Jesus Christ!

Holy fucking hell! What was THAT? I mean, I know what it was, I'm not blind but - what the hell! I could be very, very wrong about something I maintained all this time since last season...

WHOA! Mind. Officially blown.

So cannot wait until "Lost" comes back on Thursday. It's a damn shame that we lost about 150-200 posts as a result of the revamp.

Oh, well. I'm sure we'll make that up once the first episode airs and the ensuing discussion that will follow. Fuck, yeah.
Fucking awesome. I knew from the beginning that Christian was in on it. Why is this show so good?
Holy fucking shit. What the fuck is going on?!?! Oh god, Thursday can't get here fast enough...
I knew it. Every since Jack never found his body in season one. Christian has more of a part in this than anyone realizes, and given that his flashbacks effected more than one character, that makes a lot of sense.

Then again, it could just be the monster...

Well, we don't know if that is actually Christian. As Parker said, it could be Smokey. Or Jacob. Or Vincent hallucinating. We really have no idea.

I think Vincent hallucinating is a bit of a stretch. And the smoke monster most likely wouldn't materialize for an omnipresent camera and crew.

Jacob = Christian?
He said "he has work to do", which to me implies it's either the Island or Jacob (or one and the same, depending). After all, didn't Jack show up for the sole reason to fix Ben's spine? Oh, I'm getting a tingle up my spine just thinking of the possibilities.
ZOMG, Jack is the offspring of the smoke monster!

And Claire!

Maybe Jacob needs to be reborn in a human body and Aaron is it!

Whatever all ya'll are smoking, I want it.

Old man never said, "go wake up Jack, my son." He just said, "go wake up my son." COULD MEAN SOMEONE ELSE!!!111!!!!!!!1! OMG!!!!1!!!11!!!!!1

You know they're going to completely ignore this on air like they did the video from the ARG that revealed the purpose of the numbers. At least for a while.

Then that would mean Jacob is really Viggo The Carpathean, and since there is no pink slime on the island, our losties would be fucked.

That's true, but how long can they withhold it for? Eight episodes this season (for now anyway) because of the strike. If they want to address it, it may have to be fast.

Wow, was I wrong. I never figured that Christian was still alive. I figured when Jack saw him on the island, Jack was hallucinating after the trauma of the crash and his father's death, and plus - the island is some freaky shit. And during the flashforward when he said "I'm calling my father", I figured it was the booze, the drugs, and that Jack was half crazy by that time.

Another thing that occurred to me that makes me totally reverse my point of view and think that Christian really is alive - he's literally the only connecting thread to Jack and Claire finding out they're siblings. If they get off the island, we can assume that Jack goes back to Los Angeles, and Claire back to Australia. The only person around, on the island, who can make that big revelation - not to the audience, but to Jack and Claire - is Christian.

And a Vincent flashback? How fucking cool was that!

That's a little too Vigo the Carpathian for my tastes.

Possibly, but the previews for season 4 did feature shots of Christian. Of course it could be flashback shots, but since Jack's last flashback was actually a flash forward....who knows?
That mobisode was fantastic. Christian being there really ratchets up the weirdness factor. My first instinct was that he's the smoke monster, but after reading a spoiler about him on another site about season 4, I could be inclined to think otherwise.
It just doesn't make sense for the smoke monster to manifest as a guy the dog wouldn't even recognize.

Yup. And Eko, watch it. While it's not exactly a huge revelation that we'll learn more about Christian's role in things eventually, Lost spoilers are a dangerous place to dabble. If ever there were a show that relies on surprise and twists, it's this one.
I just watched the season three finale episodes again, and at the end of Through the Looking Glass Part 1 when Walt reappears he tells Locke to get up because he "has a job to do." And that's exactly what 'Christian' said of Jack at the end of that mini episode (or whatever the hell they're called). Perhaps the island manifestation theory is spot on.

Unless of course it really was Walt and Christian, and shenanigans are afoot.

Good catch. I also seem to remember Lindelof & Cuse emphatically stating in a podcast that Christian is DEAD. It was in a viewer question portion and honestly, if he wasn't dead, they could have just ignored the question. It's not a live podcast or doesn't have people calling in--fans just post questions on a message board and the pick & choose which ones they want to answer.

Well, many dogs will go up and approach just about anyone, so maybe who the smoke monster manifests itself as isn't as important as the fact that it takes the form of a human.
Unless the island can reanimate people, Christian is dead. I tend to believe that it was not really him.

*And the Viggo stuff was a joke guys. I'm not that wacky.

Well, to be fair, he's not the only person we've known was a corpse on the island but was later seen walking and talking...Eko's brother comes immediately to mind.

Still, a couple of things come to mind here:
  • Vincent approaches Christian without hesitation. If he looked human but didn't smell human, would a dog have done that? Maybe, but I tend to think not.
  • If it's not really Christian, what reason is there for him to tell a dog to go find his "son"? By showing us the character and his motivations from the perspective of an unreasoning animal, we're essentially getting an unedited view of the character. If they turn around and tell us that he was lying to a dog, it's going to feel like a huge cheat, as it essentially acknowledges that they're lying to the camera.*
*The "out" they have here, of course, is that there's something special about Vincent. And given his apparent understanding of English phrases like "bamboo grove," I'm not totally ruling that out.
Also, we don't know the entirety of the island's powers, who knows if some mind control was used? Or, it could just be that, after a plane crash, Vincent was searching for Walt and came across Christian/smokey/Jacob.

I need more hours in the day to talk about Lost...
