Miami Vice - Uni To Deliver Complete Vice In Faux Alligator-Skin Box

Universal Studios has announced this morning the release of Miami Vice - The Complete Series on DVD. It incorporates all 5 seasons of the show, previously released over the last two-and-a-half year period (has it been that long already?), into a single package that will be released on November 13th. The 27-DVD collection will come in a Faux Alligator-Skin Box which holds the five "digipak" sets together in one place.

Good news for folks who hate double-sided DVDs: while the first two season sets of Miami Vice were originally released on "flipper" discs in their individual sets, the season packs included in this collection will contain only single-sided DVDs! So instead of getting three double-sided discs for each of the first two seasons, you'll get six single-sided discs instead. That's how the disc count gets to "27". Nice!

From what we see of Universal's announcement this morning, there will be no other content that is new to this release. The only extras are the same five featurettes seen on the original Season 1 set.

Cost is $199.98 SRP. As before, expect video to be the original full-screen picture and audio to be English Dolby Digital 5.1, with all original music intact on all five seasons. Stay tuned and we'll bring you a picture of that Faux Alligator-Skin Box just as soon as we can!
I guess I shouldn't have bought season 1 & 2.

I had never seen the show, so I bought Season 1. Can't say I will be buying any more, but if I did, I can't see how many people are going to justify spending $200 in a single purchase for "Miami Vice". I think my psyche would take it better if I bought individual seasons and didn't have to park a giant, gaudy alligator box on my DVD shelf.

This is one of the few shows that I have every episode of. I wasn't planning to go past season 3 but then I got season 4 dirt cheap and then my completist side said "Why not?" and I went ahead and got season 5.

I'm not much on gimmick packaging so this set, still with almost nothing in terms special features, doesn't impress me much. I dig how the 5 seasons look together in their own separate cases.

I am quite the opposite. I'd buy it for the giant, gaudy alligator box.

Why an alligator? Put it in a Testarossa and you got a sale.

It should just be Edward James Olmos' face. You could slip each disk in a crevice.

It would probably be mistakenly merchandised in the horror section though.

$200 for a 20 year old TV show? That's what Bit Torrent is for... I almost bought the first two seasons when they were bundled at WalMart for $40, but didn't have the money.

Really all I need is a DVD with the opening titles and that's it. Looking back, that was the best part of every episode.

Mann left?! If he did, then I don't have as many more seasons to buy of this than I thought.
