'Rage,' the latest game from id Software. - Page 3

Being eight hours in according to Steam, I seriously do not get the negativity towards this other than the technical problems on PC. Even the much maligned races are actually nice. I so wish they would release some PC textures though. I'm also playing around with The Witcher 2 and the difference in quality is really, really embarrassing.

The first time one of the bigger motherfuckers appeared, I was nearly all outta ammo. Needless to say, that got interesting.

Just beat the mutant tv show, reminded me of KISS PSYCHO CIRCUS.

That game had a nearly endless amount of visible enemies. Loved that. Same for the Starship Troopers shooter that at times had houndreds of those soldier ants on screen.

Every time I play the Monkey Business segement of Bash TV on co-op I can't help but laugh at that gorilla with the knives slicing and dicing everything in its path.  Its my favorite part of all the online play by far.

Hmm.  I just went to Subway Town and spent what little cash I had on some upgrade recipes there.  I'll have to see if there's a way to get back to the old area to do some more Bash TV I guess.

When I'm done moving our house around (a-fucking-gain) I'll catch up with you peeps on some of this Ragey goodness.

Just surprised there's been no discussion about Carmack goes Electric. Kind of neat to see the response across the internet of folk who feel all betrayed. Guy just wants to build more rockets and see if there's autobots on the moon, can't blame him for taking that sweet console fat cash. I'm curious if any other developers will take to using iD's latest engine, break away from the glut of all these samey looking Unreal Engine games, given the shaky launch.

Think I've seen maybe one guy playing this on xbox in this thread. No peeps on ps3 land to chime in on how it performs? The comparative zombie ocd robot in me says go redbox this on the consoles to see if it was worth it...

I have never bitched about DLC.  Never.  Let game designers do as they will, and if I think it isn't worth my money or the game is gimped at launch, I just won't buy it.

This, however, is unacceptable.  From gamernirvana:

Rage's rumored DLC for Rage, apparently coming in mid-December, has to be the most all-encompassing, game changing (or breaking) we have ever seen.  Several sources at ID have gone on record confirming that the massive DLC upgrade will give your main character a voice and branching dialogue options.  Not for an additional map or mission, but for the entirety of the game.  This raises so many questions, we almost don't know where to begin.  Was the awkwardly silent protagonist an artistic choice, or did they simply not finish the game by the time of its launch date?  Will this meaningfully change the gameplay or story, or just represent a major cosmetic overhaul?

We'll have more details as they trickle in, including the anticipated cost.

Man I was really starting to like this game and then I got the trophy for completion. I was shocked; I honestly thought that releasing the ark survivors would be the turning point of the plot and the second half of the game would be fighting the resistance leader and his army of ark soldiers. I loved the mechanics of the gameplay and all the gadgets you can use, but holy shit is the plot threadbare.

Id should have switched around some things and added demons to this game the moment they heard about Borderlands. I don't dislike it, it's just so been there done that, and this is coming from someone who loved DOOM 3.

I believe I'm close to done with the game now, although I plan on doing the 3 job board missions in Subwaytown in order to milk this for all it's worth.  I think I'll have put about 20 hours into the game when all is said and done so that's not a bad amount of time for an FPS.  I was pretty thorough though, I believe I've only missed one side mission, I've done quite a few of the jumps, I've gambled a good amount, I've done all of the races (I gold medalled everything in Wellspring but didn't bother in Subwaytown as I came to the conclusion that I'm bad at and don't care for Rocket Rally races).  I have all of the available vehicles including the Monarch and have maxed all of them out.

Cleared out the Gearhead Vault yesterday before I stopped playing.  The game gets less fun when it starts throwing the heavily armored opponents at you.  Suddenly Wingsticks are useless, you essentially need to snipe/fat mamma/Authority machine gun with AP bullets just to plow through things and that gets expensive quickly.  I did love the flamethrower guys though, shoot them once in the face, they spin backwards then shoot their tank and watch the fun.  They send enough of them at you that it got to be fun to see how many guys I could take out with them.

About the length. I'm eight and a half hours in, I've done a lot of the sidequests but almost no gambling and half the races. Main story wise, I just did my first mission for the Resistance. I have to wonder, how all these people claiming Rage is a nine hour game played it.

Subwaytown is significantly shorter than Wellspring it appears.  Even so, it's a ton of new races and some pretty significantly large areas to explore.  The Gearhead Vault that I cleared last night was fairly huge.  I'm pretty slow and thorough going through these places but I'd say even going through at a fast clip would be 30 minutes minimum for a lot of these.  It felt larger than Dead City to me.

You could probably finish in 10 hours or so if you ignored everything that didn't involve the main mission I guess, but I don't really get the logic of rushing through.

You can get back, but they don't exactly make it obvious. In the garage in Subway Town there is an elevator (the one you go up when you first get there), it takes you back to the Resistance Camp and you can take a balloon back to Wellspring.

Why the fuck did they not include a map? The games not huge or anything, but really, no map?

This is $10 on Gamefly (digital download) from now 'til Thursday. Worth it, anyone?

If you an awesome PC, and like sorta linear shooters, then yes, it is; it doesnt have an open world or much in terms of replayability, but its ammo crafting system is originaland the shooting/action is what you expect from ID Software= tight and solid.

I'd go with it if you want to lose a few hours killing mutants in a wasteland.

Thanks. I think I'll go for it. Always nice to have an FPS to just jump into.

Agreed.  I had fun with this and thought it was better than most reviews gave it credit for.  Good atmosphere and some really fun weapons (trust me, you'll be sad when enemies become too armored for Wingsticks to take them out consistently).  It's not revolutionary but it's well done and it's pretty consistently entertaining.

Overall, it's so so. Guns are fun, graphics are great and the racing isn't all too bad, but what's missing is details. In levels, almost nothing is interactive, the open world is just big spaces with pretty much nothing in it and the characters are one note.

It's the Beyond Thunderdome to New Vegas' Road Warrior and Borderlands' Mad Max.

Well, I'd kept up with this thread back when, so that's kinda what I figured. I'm guessing (hoping?) I can get ten bucks worth of game out of it.

Yeah, there are also uses PS3/Xbox copies for $10 on GameFly as well I think.  I debated picking it up but I think I've kind of given up playing console games.

Don't wanna clog the board with posts about a months-old game, but I'm enjoying this quite a bit so far.

EDIT: Changing the pc FOV to 100 from the (console standard) 80 is a HUGE improvement.

I picked this up for mega cheap in Blockbuster yesterday and I'm loving it so far, only two hours in but I'm really loving it, playing the pS3 version and its visually stunning..

I was kinda kicking around the idea of grabbing this on the cheap too, but Iiiiiidunno. At the very least it's gotta be like $10 worth of a game right?

Yeah, ten bucks is about right.
