Ernest movies are what they are. I don't think any of us went around hailing them as masterpieces when we were growing up watching them. But they entertained me as a child, and I think that if nothing else Varney was a trooper for maintaining that alter ego for so long and not going around pretending to be better than his meal ticket.

Speaking of ironic appreciation, nothing made the transition from masterpiece to mockery as quickly as Independence Day. The summer it came out, it was all anybody my age talked about. I got it for Christmas and after about ten minutes I kinda realized how silly it all was. The day a fifth grader starts snickering at dialogue and ridiculous plot points? That's the day childhood ends.

It's actually something about the Ernest Outfit that appeals to me. I honestly have no idea what it is, and I would never desire to look anything like him, but for whatever reason I like how the man dressed.

Here is a photo, taken many, many moons ago, of me and my little sister with Ernest. He was the spokesperson for Baskin Robbins at the time, and was in our town (Broken Arrow, OK) to open up a new store. The horrified expression on my sister's face is priceless:

Say what you will about Ernest and my mental faculties, the gag in Goes to Jail where he carves a rifle out of a bar of soap sends me into fits of laughter every time.

Madea is the black Earnest. Just so you know.

Madea needs to go away now.

It was simple yet worked, a far better redneck outfit that Larry the Cable Guy, that's for sure

So did Earnest and he eventually died! Funny how things work out sometimes.

Are you suggesting that you're going to kill Tyler Perry?

Stop spelling his name wrong, Wearbal.

That would be conspiracy to commit murder. He's merely suggesting that if someone did kill Tyler Perry, it wouldn't be such an awful thing.

Right, FBI agent monitoring this thread?

Oh...I...understand now.

winks

Pumps shotgun only to realize that he spent all his ammunition money on the Tyler Perry DVD boxed set.

I'd kill Tyler Perry, but I'm too busy crashing a plane into the White House.

See y'all on the 11 o'clock news!

You gonna go with a "7 Days" style crash or a full blown Without Remorse fully fuled 747 crash?
