I think my mind just shat out a deity.

Part of me wants to feel exhilirated by our observations about our greater surroundings, part of me remains irritated that despite their relatively inconsequential nature in the face of galactic happenstance, my own day to day dramas still have the power to crush my spirit.

In sum: wow.

I love the nerdy science news like this.

It's stuff like that that makes me hate Einstein. C'mon, no warp speed? Really? I wanna go!

This stuff is beyond fascinating to me. Anyone watching 'The Universe' on the History Channel? They did an hour on other galaxies last week.

Well I did stand hypnotised by the shuttle launch this morning, made me late for work, but I love that stuff. I especially love the point where the camera on the fuel-cell is able to capture the point where the earth background develops a curve with black space visible behind it. That achievement is still so incredibly awesome to me.

But yeah, knowing I'll never see even a tiny infinitesimal fraction of what's out there saddens me.

The four newly discovered merging galaxies lie 5 billion light years away, meaning astronomers see them as they were 5 billion years ago.
I can't even understand how far away that is.

The vastness of the universe really is far beyond human comprehension. At least without the appropriate controlled substance.
