Actors with the most bang for the buck*

Thread Starter
I saw this in the paper this morning...

Forbes created a list of actors & actresses that get the most Box Office gross worldwide (and DVD sales) in relation to their salary. It only goes by their last three roles, but I found it kinda interesting. Turns out Matt Damon has the most bang-for-the-buck...

Quote:
For every dollar Damon got paid for his last three roles, his films returned $29 of gross income. And, surprisingly, former Friends star Jennifer Aniston is Hollywood's most profitable actress, despite duds like Rumor Has It. For ever dollar the former Mrs. Pitt was paid for her last three major roles, her films on average returned $17 of gross income.
Here's the list - for every dollar the actor got paid, this is how much they brought in.

Matt Damon - $29
Brad Pitt - $24
Vince Vaughn - $21
Johnny Depp - $21
Jennifer Aniston - $17
Angelina Jolie - $15
Renee Zellweger - $14
Reese Witherspoon - $13
Ben Stiller - $13
Sandra Bullock - $13
Tom Hanks - $12
Leonardo DiCaprio - $11
Tom Cruise - $11
Will Smith - $10
Denzel Washington - $10
Cameron Diaz - $9
Adam Sandler - $9
Will Ferrell - $8
Jim Carrey - $8
Nicole Kidman - $8
Jennifer Lopez - $7
Russell Crowe - $5

Poor Russell. Beaten by J.Lo....

*Yes, I went with that title just so there would be some good entries in the parody thread today...

Where's Christopher Murney on that list?

I guess this can put to rest whether or not Christian Bale is a star or not.

Not entirely, if at all, related but I'm always amused that Bruce Spence was in LotR: RotK, SW:RotS, Matrix Revolutions, and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.

Speaking of LotR, Matrix, and, erm, Australia ... Shouldn't Hugo Weaving be on that list? Last three: Transformers, Happy Feet, V for Vendetta. And I'm guessing he didn't get all that much for at least the first two.

Unless they aren't counting voice work in animation. Fine, then his last three is poisoned by Australia-only entires. However, if we go only American ... V for Vendetta, Return of the King, Matrix Revolutions. Hugo Weaving is a slam-dunk box office draw.

Maybe they're only going off of Leading Actor/Actress roles? In which case out of the three you listed, Weaving would only get the monetary credit for V.

This list is kind of weird in the films it picked. I guess they were looking at starring vehicles? I mean, it doesn't look like they factored the "Ocean's" films into the equation for Damon/Pitt, which probably would have made them look like an even bigger bargain. However "The Good Shepherd" doesn't get factored in, which probbaly would have hurt Damon's average. Still, interesting concept, and the results feel right. I am hoping that with the successof the Apatow films this summer, hopefully the age of the grossly overpaid comedian is coming to an end. I've been a fan of Carrey for ages, but if "Fun With Dick and Jane" cost $100 million, that's ridiculous.

Either Aniston works for $5 and a free promotional sweatshirt per movie, or Forbes has come to the conclusion that she carried Bruce Almighty and The Break-Up.

Heh, it's funny that I clicked on the thread title thinking it was more of a conceptual debate, not a statistical analysis, and still the first guy to pop into my head was Matt Damon.

I think that film had a very troubled production, with multiple rewrites. Which isn't to say Carrey didn't earn a pretty penny.
