87. The Gary Shandling Show.
Best theme song ever.
I couldn't find a version of the proper opening titles so here is a version of it from the show performed by The Turtles which in itself is pretty cool.

88. Matt "Don't you fucking dare call me a wannabe Magnum" Houston.

More shows needed to incorporate Buddy Epson firing an uzi in their intros.

89. Thundarr the Barbarian

Too bad Arnold chose to play that other barbarian.

90. John From Cincinatti

Love the Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros cut to classic surf footage.

How could we overlook such bass for so long?

98. The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.

What's even more weird is that particular theme music is now used by NBC for their Olympic broadcasts.
Um no I believe NBC asked Williams to score some Wertern Orchestral riffs for coverage of Salt Lake that they recycled for Torino even though it was in Italy.

How is it we went tis long without MASH?

No, he's right, they totally used the Brisco County theme for their Olympics coverage.
Glad to see Dickson confirmed what I had found. It's mentioned on the Briscoe Commentary that NBC used the score for the '06 Winter Olympics.

So, now that we've gone through 101, do we get to start posting a bunch that inexplicably didn't make it? Like...

Batman
Spider-Man
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Brady Bunch
The Littlest Hobo
Gilligan's Island

And how could we have neglected Baywatch?

Edit: Wait, have we gone through 101 yet?
Seeing as this has turned into a total nostalgia fest I'll keep the train running,

Live Action Spider-Man Series

Wow, sorry then all I remember from my extensive HD viewing of Torino where the opening bits of Summon the Hereoa and Champions over and over again followed by Costatas voice.

The Wire has an opening that makes me beg for blindness and deafness. Thankfully fast forwawrding is an option on the DVDs. Seriously, probably the worst opening to a good show ever.
No disrespect but saying such a statement will probably entangle you in a world of shit. Just wanted to give you the warning.

The Monkees

Would've though it was listed already.

Wow. Just wow. The Wire has a fantastic opening sequence that perfectly sets the tone for the show. I just don't understand how you can enjoy and appreciate such a multi-layered, complex show and not like the equally pefect opening. Crazy talk I tell ya.
not gonna bother with numbering them

Jake and the Fat Man

Dukes of Hazzard

Star Trek The Next Generation

Kung-Fu

The Andy Griffith Show

And I personally liked the opening for the Aladdin cartoon series tho it might not deserve to be on the list.

edit: totally missed magnum earlier in the list

Speaking of bad opening-credit sequences, Alias was really bad for quite some time. The photoshop lens flare flying around was annoying as shit. The theme was the only saving grace for that thing.

I always liked the Amazing Stories opening montage when I was a kid. I'm actually quite surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet.

Phantom 2040's opening still is a favorite of mine:

As for Johnny Quest, while the old sequence was fantastic, the last series also had a great opening, as far as Im concerned:

Finally, as for anime, the opening of Black Lagoon is particularly good..simple, yet effective:

Good choice with Black Lagoon, I had netflixed the dvds and they were pretty good considering how I'd been burned by anime in the past.

Gargoyles

You can't be serious about that Men in Black intro. That intro and cartoon was fucking rancid.
You know you're probably right. I chalk that selection up to nostalgia and cold induced fatigue that imparied my thinking ability. And thankfully it was stricken from the record.

Gilligan's Island

The Adams Family

The Munsters

I was going to mention that one a good while ago but couldn't find a link to a video alas.
Here is one that deserves a mention:
The live action simpsons opening.

Damn me for not mentioning this one earlier:

Weeds.

Elvis Costello did a version.
as did Death Cab For Cutie, Ozmatli
,The Submarines and of course, Randy Newman..
Cast members knocked off a few, this being the best of them.

absolutely the most awesome opening credits ever (really quite sad nobody seems to have mentioned it):

And, really, shouldn't Woodward be in every single thing ever made?

Agreed. Too bad the show itself couldn't come close to living up to the intro.

How about some love for The Greatest American Hero...

To bad after the intro the Real Adventures of Johnny Quest was a massive let down and did not deserve to amp the theme up as much as it did, whereas the original got you ready but then blew you away. "Shadow of the Condor" was the first episode I ever saw and once the kick ass accurate bi planes showed up, I was sold for life.
While its true that "The real adventures.." never reached the level of the original, I still enjoyed it (except for the virtual reality stuff), mostly out of the themes for each episodes, the pseudo science (I remember when they explained how a perfect sphere could onlly be done in zero gravity, I think) and the fact that they keep the body count of the original series.
Plus, its not like you see a Succubus or a haunted house taht crushes people in cartoons these days.

M.A.S.K

- Masked Crusaders, Working Overtime, Fighting Crime, Fighting Crime!

COPS

- The cartoon or even the later FOX series.

The Love Boat

Air Wolf

Air Wolf's intro is everything awesomely 80s 'tech'. From the music to the Bladerunner font. I would watch the intro as a kid and the leave the room because it was pretty boring.
