The most ridiculous moment of FAMILY MATTERS - Page 4

How come Urkel didn't use a robot or clone to defeat those racists that once desecrated Laura's locker?

Surely if he can turn himself and two seven year olds in Bruce Lee and fight off Chicago's toughest gang, he could've dealt with some racists in a high school?

Or maybe racism really is that powerful.

I had no idea this show was so bizarre.

He's still alive accroding to Wikipedia and IMDB. And here's a pic of him as of late:

Here it appears he's doing his asian version of Tony Blundetto.

Has anyone mentioned the series finale where Steve travels through space?
Or that his unseen parents die on the russian space station.
Man I never realized how god damn bizarre this show got at times.

My favorite Step by Step moment occurred when nerd son is caught watching porn videos in the garage, who is caught when his ingenious plan of hiding the porn in a Little Mermaid box is uncovered. Suzanne Summers summons Bobby Ewing to give nerd son a heart-felt speech complete with touching Miller/Boyett scoring.

The Steve robot attempting to basically rape Laura was the big WTF moment for me.

I fucking LOVEd this show as a kid, though. Watched every week without fail.
That Christopher Castile autobiography looks like a Scholastic dream! I should order a copy. I would very much like to learn the behind-the-scenes shenanigans that surely took place on the set of BEETHOVEN during the scene where he strips off and "muscles up" in the mirror.

For me, Family Matters' most ridiculous moment is one that all TGIF shows shared- the obligatory "family visits Disney World" episode. Its basically a half hour commercial for Disneyworld! Embarrassing!

A close second is when someone spray painted "nigger" on Laura's locker at school. Racism hits home!
I'm ashamed at how many of these episodes I remember.

I'm also ashamed that I now have the Full House theme song in my head.

But this thread is golden.

ernie reyes jr was "cemetary warrior" in Crystal Skull! thank you, thread, for pointing me in the right direction.

4 pages and no one has mentioned Boy Meets World? Topanga was one of my first crushes.
Well, Boy Meets World doesn't really fit, since it mostly eschewed the wacky hijinks of Family Matters, and unlike Step by Step, was actually well written for the most part.

But yeah, I've noticed Topanga was kind of every guy my age's first crush. And who didn't wish they had a Mr. Feeny growing up?
I remember how HUGE of a deal it was when they finally cut Topanga's hair. All my friends were talking about it in school.
Oh wow, for all this mention of the Step by Step kid also being on Beethoven, I just now realized he wasn't in Amadeus but in the dog movie.

I had my grandparents tape part 2 of that episode when I went off to some camp. I had to see whether Laura would marry Stefan, the wacky conclusion to Eddie's and Waldo's inability to find Orlando, and whether Carl was actually going to move the Winslow clan to Disney World!

It's funny how the TGIF Disney World episodes seem to always gleam over the morbidly obese, lower middle-class families from Iowa or the chain smoking Euro trash tourists.

I remember one episode of PERFECT STRANGERS where Balki and Larry were framed for murder and on the run. This was darker territory than PERFECT STRANGERS usually tackles, and I was gripped. Not joking; to a stupid 6-year-old kid, this was something big.

And then my mother FORCED me to have a bath during part 2/the resolution. I screamed and cried and threw the biggest tantrum of maybe my entire life, but it cut no ice with my mother. To this day I don't know if Balki and Larry beat the rap or caught the true murderer.

The drunken Urkle dance; the Urkle Max Headroom nuke of Chicago; Urkle using his jetpack to fly to Step by Step, and teach the Urkle dance; the orginal Stefan Urkelle transformation; Urkle's cousin Myrtle, not cute kid version but lanky whatchamacallit; American Gladiators; the various versions of Carl's stepdad Lester; the continuing disitegrating mind of Myra; the continuing turndowns of Myra over to Laura; and the shootout episode with the PSA afterwards 'Squash It!'

This show was the definition of manic, one moment the whole group is singing "we are family" in walks Urkle getting bit by a dog then the world is turned inside out and upside down
post #174 of 198
Here's the clip of Urkelbot trying to rape Laura. Why did they put a crack in its ass? I believe in a sequel episode Urkelbot became a cop in which they ripped off the convenience store scene from Robocop.

Oh, and the sexiest kids show chick is still and will always be, Amy Jo Johnston from Power Rangers.

Didn't Step by Step have an appearance by a real-life Beavis & Butthead trying to date the daughters. As I recall, Patrick Duffy was not amused.

I seem to recall a cross-promotional "Time Travel" edition of TGIF with all the shows involving the characters in various periods. Boy Meets World was set during WWII if memory serves me correct. Anyone else remember this?

It did actually. Miller-Boyet can get righteously fucked.

I'm gonna say Urkel and Carl shrinking themselves.
Its the strangest sitcom there's ever been, by far. It starts out like a normal family sitcom, and later we have Steve inventing crazy transformative devices, several personas, etc. Although I do like Jaleel White when he plays Stephan, he's really good at not only playing two different characters interacting with one another.

I remember that. Eric was released from the military due to a mental problem but they told him it was flat feet.

Speaking of Boy Meets World is it alright to admit to liking that show without irony? It's not half bad.
It was fine, but like every other sitcom. It ran way too damn long.
I don't know why, but when a show starts out with the main characters as children/teens, it always goes to shit when the characters go to college.
Yeah but I had such a crush on Topanga at that point I could ignore the fact that Eric's essential purpose in every episode was to sit around and go "WHACKITY SHMACKITY DOO!" and make funny faces.

The acting/characterizations were so strangely childish in those later seasons even as a kid I was like "The fuck are they doing?"
I think they skipped several grades during the course of Boy Meets World. It started out in 1993 when they were sixth grade, and by about 1997 they were in grad school.

I remember watching the series premiere of Boy Meets World after viewing Lorenzo's Oil with my mom. Why my mom though I would enjoy that movie I can't say, but I'd like to think it was revenge for The 3 Ninjas.

Great example of this are the kids from Home Improvement.

My friend and I found a copy of this for next to nothing and bought it. We read through it one afternoon. Right now I believe it's sitting on his bookshelf.

The best part is when he talks about going to a special dinner with his parents where they present him with his very own abstinence ring. Reading about his preferred wedding night being awkward instead of "like two pros going at it is both amazing and uncomfortable.

Even more awesome/awkward is how he talks about his parents loving relationship and how their belief in abstinence led to a great marriage. Because in the last chapter he drops the shocking twist ending - they're getting divorce. DUN DUN DUN!!!!!

Also, I learned that Jaleel White was quite good at basketball as evidenced by his playing on the ABC b-ball court.

I love how they focus on that for a good fifteen seconds before going to commercial in that episode.

Truly, that's one of my favorite episodes of the show, if only because (prior to that one bit of racism) the entire school seemed super excited about Laura's proposed Black History Class. All the super enthusiastic white kids signing her petition just make me laugh.

Plus - the note inside her locker before she slams it to reveal the ultimate shocking graffiti was quality stuff: "If you want black history, go back to Africa."

Wasn't Laura shot in an episode which ended with this "inspirational" PSA announcement?

Squash it!

I actually saw this episode recently. It was great. Reginald VelJohnson never gets his proper due but he is a great actor when he gets all serious like he did in this episode, after getting mad that this thug gave 3J a gangster rap CD.

"You know how I feel about lyrics that put down the police."

Urkel's thug cousin was such a scumbag. I was rooting for Carl to slam his head into the wall or something but I remembered that this was a family show and was brought back to reality.

I love Eddie's mancrush on OGD

Reginald VelJohnson was an underrated actor. Most of the material he had to work with were more on the campy side.

Actually, I think Boy Meets World is the only show that managed to get through the characters growing up for so long without jumping the shark. The only thing that bothered me was the horrible continuity and logical errors.

Honestly, never. I wouldn't want a next door neighbor as my teacher for all eternity, really (However, a Mr. Turner would of been cool. Shame he just disappeared after his motocycle accident). As for Topanga, she was cute, but I thought Shawn's girlfriend was prettier.

That was the one where Shawn joined a cult and their leader happened to be Mr. Feeny's arch-nemesis. Assuming the cult got to him...

There were times Carl lost his cool, shoved a few scumbags and told them a thing or two...I'm sure of it. I just can't recall what episodes specifically.
This thread is fantastic.

I think my favorite episode is when Urkel keeps sleepwalking into the Winslow home and repeatedly beating Carl over the head with a newspaper. We then learn the reason that Carl is upset with him, through a hypnosis session with Urkel, is that after 4 1/2 months working on a model ship, Urkel comes to get Laura for a Halloween dance. Naturally, he's dressed as a knight, and wrecks the ship right as Carl finishes it, leading to the obligatory "Did I do that?"

Hilarious...not really, but still.
