Best Acting During Dying Moments(Spoilers) - Page 2

Daniel Auteuil in "Manon of the Spring". I can't remember the French title for that. It's really more of a pre-death scene. He sews a ribbon into his man-boob, then hangs himself. It's quite moving.

Bo Hopkins near the beginning of The Wild Bunch. It's not necessarily his acting that sells it, but rather the line before he bites it after being shot down.

"Well, how'd you like to kiss my sister's black cat's ass?"

I was just about to post this one, as I'd searched for "Joe Morton" (that's the actor's name) in the thread and gotten no matches.

Ever since I first saw them (and still to this day), Im awed by these deaths:
-Rutger Hauer in "Blade Runner" (my favorite death on film)
-Gregory Peck in "Moby Dick" (Traumatized me as a kid)
-Nick Frost in "Shaun of the dead" (a buddy's death)
-Hugh Jackman in "The Fountain" (the whole ending sequence)
-Mako in "The sand pebbles" (another childhood trauma)
-Sean Connery in "The Untouchables" (Love this one)

I loved Nicholson's in The Departed. That was a completely surreal scene for me, for some reason.
Maybe it's becayuse the blood pooled around his mouth makes him resemble The Joker.

I will also add Jim Carrey in The Mask.
Chow Yun Fat at the end of 'The Killer' just the look of panic and despair on his face before he finally collapses and dies.

Jason Statham throughout the entire running time of 'Crank'

I must also voice support for Jack Vincenne's death in L.A. Confidential. It really does look like the life is going out of his eyes.

Another support for Joe Morton's death in T2. His breathing is something that stuck with me ever since I saw it on video when I was still in grade school.

This might not be the best, but I still love it; Cruise's death in COLLATERAL.

After unloading his weapon at Max, Vincent goes to reload, only to fumble his new magazine. Then it hits him. I love the look of acceptance he has on his face when he realizes he's been shot, almost like a "Fuck, I ca't believe he got me."

He doesn't even try anything. He just sits down and accepts the bullet in his stomach, almost out of respect. Awesome death of a badass.

Rhodes, Day of the Dead. Pilato's finest hour.
Jean-Paul Belmondo pausing to check his hair in the mirror before he collapses (LE DOULOS). Very similar, and almost equally amusing, is Ray Liotta's death scene in SOMETHING WILD.
Tom Roth is Reservior Dogs, Giovanni Ribisi in Private Ryan.
Joe Pesci in Casino.
If only because it's the only time you ever hear a narrator get killed while delivering his voiceover.
"And den we went ta meet dees guys in da- AAACCGKKK!"
WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! with the baseball bats.
"No ballz... no ballz..."

What would you guys list as some of the best acting during dying moments?
Your avatar, for one.
Also, DeNiro in Fifteen Minutes. Crap film otherwise, though.
John Wayne in the Cowboys.
Duvall in Lonesome Dove.
Eric Schweig, Steven Waddington, or Maurice Roeves in Mohicans.
Paxton in One False Move. Or Navy Seals.
Costner in A Perfect World.
Bridges in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.
Jack Warden in Used Cars.
Brown and Woodward in Breaker Morant.
Song Gang-Ho in Shiri.
Choi-Min Shik in Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.

HAL from 2001.
Toshiro Mifune, Samurai Rebellion.
Ace In the Hole: Kirk Douglas falling straight into the camera.

Once Upon a Time In the West: Robards has been mentioned, but Fonda gets to bite it onscreen.

And hey, nobody said it had to be in a movie so... the last episode of Angel. A tie between Wesley and Lindsey.

Edited to add:

Bonnie and Clyde: Hackman, moaning about his shoes

The Razor's Edge: Denholm Elliott, in a classic 'deathbed' scene

and...

You beat me to it. Another favorite is Kong's death in King Kong '05. Guess the actor would be the guy who played Gollum and the wizards at WETA? Who knows but that is some awesome digital performance.
Gollum's death in Return of the King is another awesome digital performance. That moment of ecstasy before he dies is awesome work by WETA and Andy Serkis.

"Your technique is...magnificent. When cut across the neck, a sound like wailing winter winds is heard, they say. I'd always hoped to cut someone like that someday, to hear that sound. But to have it happen to my own neck is...ridiculous."
I think Scotty playing the Bagpipes seals that picture from above, and the real emotion another reason why the original crew will always be the best.
Frank Oz as Yoda, Return of the Jedi. Gains bonus points for being a puppet.
The puppet deaths in The Dark Crystal are superior.

One more:

"Fifty bucks never killed anybody..."

Jürgen Prochnow watches his boat sink. Then he dies. But first, he watches his boat sink. Once it's gone, nothing is left for him.
George Clooney in "The Perfect Storm"

What movie? Must watch.
Lone Wolf & Cub. That series has the monopoly on deaths.
Clive Owen in Children of Men.

I'll side with Shogun Assassin on this, it's just a mishmash of all the violence in the Lone Wolf and Cub movies, everyone's heard that complaint, but still... I love the dubbing for that line.
Cheech Marin in Yellowbeard.
Sean Connery's dignity in "The Avengers"

Worst moment of the trilogy. Worse than the big gay hug in bed.

Sorry, I loved it. A fitting conclusion to his arc. And here's your punishment for saying that....

Definitely have to agree with Spock in 'Khan'. I watched it a few weeks ago and was moved to god damn tears. The way Shatner and Nimoy finish that line, "The needs of the many..." "Outweigh the needs of the few..." "...or the one." And his final, 'Live long and prosper' in that raspy voice, just absolutely touching and no amount of retcon in III can take away from that.

Even though it's stated at the beginning of the film, Nicole Kidman's death (and Ewan MacGregor's reaction) in 'Moulin Rouge' was one of many great moments in a fantastic film.

Edit: I don't know if we count anime, but I have to mention it: Wolfwood in 'Trigun'. His understanding that he lived his life the wrong way is electrifying and the song, 'Rakuen' is the most devastating and haunting pieces of film scoring I've heard in a long time. Still choke up when I hear it to this day.

Harold Perrineau in Romeo + Juliet. Forget about "WAAAAAAALT!!!" In the right context, the man can overact to glorious effect.
I agree with the above statement. I haven't seen that movie in a while, but now I'm reminded of how great his delivery of "A plague on both your houses!" is.
Stated earlier, but definitely needs to be said again:

Hugh Jackman - The Fountain

The whole movie's about coming to accept death and the ending was perfect for it. The look of absolute acceptance and inner peace was something that I hope I can only have when my own time comes.

He trashes the Queen Mab speech, though.

Favorite Shakespearean movie death for me would be McKellen in Richard III.

Well, it's not like that's not an obvious assumption to make...Ian McKellan and all. But yes, that's a damn phenomenonal way he went down.
I always thought Gibson did quite well with his death seen Hamlet. Shit, the whole cast was pretty good during the grand death finale (spoilers!).
Bernard Hill takes it like a champ, it seems. I loved his way out in 'Titanic', just him standing in the navigation booth, no words, no one else and then the water comes rushing in.

And of course, his final goodbye to Eowyn in 'Return of the King'. That's the scene that starts the floodgates for the next hour and a half or so.

To be fair, I get the impression that Lurman just wasn't really sure how to play that scene.

Another that I don't remember being mentioned: Alan Rickman in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. As a kid I suspected that they really killed the guy to get his last gasps just right.
Brad Pitt has a good death in "Legends of the fall"
Gibson dies well in "Braveheart" (think back to the first time you saw it).
If Rose really dies at the end of Titanic then that is a beautiful death.
The death of the vietnamese girl in "Casualties of War" is just heartbreaking.

Jack Nicholson's death in The Departed.

Hell yes. I remember my dad commenting on it being a good death scene when I was a lot younger, and to this day I think he's 100% about a movie most people hate.
