What's up with the half naked poster of Rob Lowe in Sam's room? is he gay or what?

Let me get this straight: this poster, this one right here makes a guy gay?
I'm not following you.

It's cause Rob was his hero after seeing his sex tape. He was MY hero, at least.

Ya know, I never thought about it before, but there's absolutely nothing in the movie that suggests he isn't gay. He's a young teen who doesn't display any interest in women and has an unusual preoccupation with fashion. Maybe Schumacher was being a little subversive there.

Uhm...did you miss the class on subtext in movies? As far as I know the whole movie is a metaphor for being gay.

Maybe, but this is arguably text and, furthermore, text that might even subvert the subtext, since Sam is the one most concerned with Michael's "transformation."

You'd think that Michael would have the Lowe poster up, and Michael would have all kinds of hetereo signifiers on display. I suppose the comic book obsession is arguably pretty hetero, or you could say that it's childlike, and that he's afraid of confronting adulthood/reality (i.e. his own homosexuality). But the Lowe poster in his room kinda throws it off a little.

Faggots...You're eating faggots Micheal.

The Lowe poster could be an unconcious choice. My wife once worked at a summer arts college. There was a teenage boy with a Judy Garland poster on his wall who seriously had no idea he was gay. My wife has excellent gaydar, btw, and says there were other obvious clues.

So, Michael is hetero and it's his love of Star that makes him reject the men. His brother is not angry that Michael's becoming a vampire/gay. He's actually angry that HE wasn't invited to the club.

To make the subtextual analogy work better, it should have been a shirtless Bela Lugosi poster.

Maybe Sam just really, really liked St. Elmo's Fire.

His attire clearly speaks a flamboyant "YEEEEESSSSSS!"

Don't forget that he sings a song about not getting a man in the tub with bubbles and a "Born to Shop" shirt.

I don't it's the sex tape, wasn't that 1988 and Lost Boys came out in '87? Can't be.

Has anyone ever seen the Rob Lowe sex tape?
I don't remember how celebrity sex tapes circulated pre-internet.
