I've been waiting for this special edition treatment for yonks now. So, where's my documentary about the Poltergeist curse? If it was good enough to be covered by E!, it's good enough for me.

Maybe this DVD will actually get a Region 2 release this time around.

I'm really considering checking it out when it plays in theaters, if only to see if it still freaks me out as much as it did when I was a kid. But I'm worried that people will be laughing throughout the whole thing like when I saw Nightmare on Elm Street. Fuckers.

"This theater has many hearts..."

I can't fucking wait!

This DVD looks incredibly WEAK.
Can't they do better than that with the special features? Nearly everyone has seen this film, I would think it could at least include some sort of making-of or commentary.

Don't get me started on the Part II/Part III "2-pack"

I would love to see it theatrically though. It's still frightening at times, especially when faces are getting yanked off and corpses are water-logged.

(People will laugh AT it though (unfortunately), especially JoBeth Williams constantly exclaiming "GIVE ME BACK MY BABY!" for the last half of the film).

Not as scary when you add the poppin' & lockin'...

But, add some blood and it's a whole new story...

Add some Lionel Richie, and it gains a whole new level of frightening macabre. Shit, someone needs to edit the scenes from Poltergeist and Elm Street together to this song STAT.

EDIT: Poltergeist has got to be the scariest PG flick (along with JAWS) ever. Still freaks me out, just watching those little clips.

EDIT#2: Holy Shit, I forgot Rodney Dangerfield was at the end of the Dancin' On the Ceiling video.

Mmmmmmm, Jo Beth Williams in Poltergeist, white streak in her hair and all.

Looking forward to buying this ,I was in high school when this first came out and it was pretty scary for being PG rated .
I totaly agree the special features look pretty weak if I want to know about real Poltergeist I will watch ghost hunter on tv .I want to see Tobe Hooper at work on one of his best movies all this does is adds to the conspiracy that speilberg secretly directed this movie.

I loved this movie as a kid, but it hasn't aged well at all. The clown doll attack is pretty much still the only effective scene. And don't get me started on the metaphysical speeches that bring the second act to a dead halt at about the one hour mark.

Love Goldsmith's score, though.

If you're watching this as an adult and looking for something scary, you're going to be at a loss. It's not scary unless you're a little kid. Heck, I didn't find it particularly scary as a little kid (including the clown scene... and clowns freak me right out). However, if you watch it for a sense of, call it, suburban eerieness and, especially, for a sense of innocence and wonder, well, Poltergeist (in my humble opinion) has that in spades. That's enough to make it all worth while.

As is Jo Beth Williams.

Especially Jo Beth Williams.

And, to a much lesser extent, Coach reading a Reagan biography while smoking a blunt (but, y'know, without the sexiness inherent to the aforementioned Jo Beth Williams).

The first one has the giant mouth that opens up in their closet at the end, right? That thing is still really fucking disturbing. Part of what makes this movie for me is how... wet, and goopy and 'organic' things are. It's fucking gross/awsome. Horror movies today need more slime and/or giant shredded vaginas in closets.

Galaxy 14 in Indy is showing it. I may have to check it out.
