New 2-disc Taxi Driver

Got this today. Seems like a worthy upgrade. I haven't gotten into all the special features, but both new commentaries are solid and the packaging is cool.

I've had the old barebones forever. If you haven't bought it yet or have been hoping for a better treatment, this is probably the best we'll get for a good while.

If I recall, the original wasn't completely barebones, but this does seem like a nice upgrade. I'll definitely be picking this up.

Also, new Robocop and Serenity DVDs this week!

I can't believe I don't own this movie yet. I have it on VHS. VHS! I love that VHS copy, though. It has done good for me.

Has anyone had the chance to listen to the Paul Schrader commentary? I'm very curious about that...

I've had a hell of a time looking for this DVD. No one seems to be carrying it. I'm gonna try again this weekend.

I have the original Taxi Driver DVD, and yeah, it wasn't completely barebones so I'm on the fence about picking this one up.

I'm even more undecided on Serenity. I loved the flick, lotsa fun for the eyes and the brain, but I have the original disc and I just. Don't. Know.

I'm torn!

Yeah I think I tried Best Buy and Circuit City before thankfully finding it at Target (which had it the cheapest anyway)

It's good, but Schrader's an old dude, so there's a fair amount of dead space, but he does give some nice insights into his writing style.

The scholar's commentary is the most entertaining.

And I consider the first one to be pretty barebones, especially for a movie like Taxi Driver. The scholarly commentary is really what I was excited for.

I got mine at Target as well.

The disc two featurettes are awesome. Lots and lots of stuff on them with pretty much everyone who matters that was involved giving their opinions on stuff. Between this and Robocop, I have spent the last two days watching great featurette goodness.

I was on the fence about the new Serenity disc as well, but the addition of a DTS track and the new commentary made for the double-dip. Plus, the cover art isn't great, but it's much better than the horrendous art on the first release.

Two-Lane Blacktop and Days of Heaven aside, I think I'm done double-dipping until I go HD. The last Taxi Driver dvd had a 90 minute doc, didn't it?
