You guys are good at Photoshop, right?

Thread Starter
We need a graphic to post in a thread when people take perfectly funny stuff and run it into the ground with bad jokes. As if they MUST post in a thread even if they got nuthin'. We need an image to post so that the wiser among us don't have to read further. We could use one of those in the "Big Hand" thread and I know I could have used one in the "Porn Title Repository" one I started.

This thread is going to collapse in on itself by the end of the second page.

Duh!

Is this just a clever ruse to get us photoshoppers and .gif makers into one thread so that you can nuke us all at the same time?
It's the only way for him to be sure.
Does it have to be on the nose (e.g. Hitler and Eva Braun reading the thread in their bunker, with Adolf reaching for a 7.65 mm mauser), or can it be something less direct, like Hitler playing bridge with the Golden Girls? I'm running under the assumption that it has to include Adolf Hitler.

We're having a picture to accompany unfunny post? I may as well just wear it as a sig. Guess I should at least contribute to my own demise...

Look, I'm sorry alright! Millette already got all warm and fuzzy on my rep about it so why start all this?

And if I'm way off base then please look at these pretty pictures:

This last one was specific to a user from another site I frequent. He had this propensity to post stories from Drudge Report. His user name was fortinbras but you can probably guess what someone oh so wittily changed it to.

Dude, a little Not Safe For My Eyes warning would have been nice.

Man those male RealDolls are soooo realistic.

Maybe I'm just in a grouchy mood today, but I have to question Nick's intentions here. Pretty much any thread that becomes an endless stream of jokes will include the good with the bad. There are always going to be some people that are wittier than others. That's just the way it goes. The "My Ass" thread, the "feet" thread, and the "big ol' hand" thread alternated between jokes that were sublimely funny, mildly amusing, and dead on arrival. If they had become an immediate dogpile on the less funny posters, then the threads would have died before they ever took off. All gag threads will run out of steam on their own accord anyway. I don't think it should be up to the "wiser" of us(whoever that may be) to decide that when they've grown bored with it then it's time to shut it down.

Love the forums here, Nick. I can either read, or join in, on some of the best discussions on film to be found on the net. Or if I feel like just having fun, then there is never a shortage of bizarre, ridiculous news stories posted to mock to my dark, little heart's content. But when people see others having fun they'll understandably want to join in, and since they are a part of this message board community they should be allowed to without the fear of being told that they aren't as funny, and have ruined an otherwise good time. It's an easy thing to overlook an unfunny joke and move on to something that truly elicits a gut-busting laugh in one of those threads. It's pretty much the standard operating procedure.

I don't feel, however, that the creator of this site needs to commission a graphic to signal that once his jokes have been told, or he has grown tired of the subject, that the thread is now obsolete and anyone continuing to post is unfunny, witless and unworthy of contributing to the greatness that has come before. Just let the threads die a natural slow death. It's the inevitable conclusion to all joke threads.

edited- Because i'm tired, and that post was a mess to read because of it.

Gotta agree with Amphibitron. There will always be a "me too" mentality that makes everyone want to try their hand at some easy jokes. Unfunny jokes are incredibly easy to ignore so I don't think a graphic is needed.
What's wrong with the classic Scanners head or the Sutherland grimace and point? Already easily recognized by all.

And I agree with Amphibatron 100%. Ignore the threads you don't feel are worthwhile anymore. Enough good posters stay out of them, they'll wither and die on their own.

Apparently when Nick said "Photoshop something" people heard "Run around the Internet and look for overused macros."
Actually, I whipped that up in Photoshop just now.

Try again.
I think what Nick was getting at was maybe for a thread that's run it's course. Sort of a "beating of the dead horse" kind of a thing. The jokes have been made and there's really nothing left to say. It's over. Move on. Late to the party. No longer needed. Let it live in the history of the Chud boards rather then dragging it out......
Which is accomplished by no one posting in the thread and it dropping off the new post page.
I think putting tons of weight of "the history of the CHUD boards" and "classic threads" is retarded, and either way you say it it's still essentially saying "I don't believe this thread is funny anymore".

How do you fuck up a thread filled with jokes about a guys giant hand, though?
I would say to go and read that thread to find out how.

Well then you're the one to blame.

This thread is irony.

Then I guess I scored with that one, was trying to match the LOLmeme vibe with it.

That said, I suppose if anyone thinks a thread has run its course, the key thing is not to *not* post in it, it's simply not to click on it in the first place.

I suppose Nick might be upset if a trainwreck grows out of control for reasons relating to public perception of the site as well as server-related reasons, but for the rest of us, it's fairly easy to leave well enough alone, right?

(unlike this post right here)

I'm with Amphibatron on this one. Discouraging people from reading or posting in certain threads is no way to build a community. There will always be those who don't know when that dead horse is completely mutilated, but I find it easy enough to click to another thread when I'm tired of giant hand jokes.

Jesus, two pages? I was pretty sure I killed it personally by making an Elektra joke.

After my two horrible unfunny posts in the hand thread, I tried to redeem myself, but it was already too late.

Anyways, here's one I just made. Feel free to use it another message board where people might think it's funny(ish). Or not.

I don't think anyone will ever come up with anything better than this

My goal was to have an image instead of someone saying "dude, you're an asshole" without being mean. I want people to try but i want to avoid the ripping into people. An image that's fun that folks understand the meaning of is a good happy medium to indicate "OK, move on... this one's dead".
I think a stern look from old man Bruce Wayne conveys all that.

Fair enough. I'd never seen that one.

I like the old man Wayne picture.
I think Moltisanti nailed it. If you think a thread's worn itself out, just lock it. Personally, I'm against it-- I've seen several threads follow a bell curve from blandness back to brilliance. All it takes is that one inspired post to get everyone rolling again.

I believe some boards enforce a time limit on threads so they lock up automatically after a certain period of inactivity. Would that accomplish the same end?
Wayne does look pissed that someones getting the shitty end of the stick.

I could always remove the "asshole" bit from my bug. Sorry guys, I like him.

*hangs animation on wall*

An image of a sewer opening being closed or some such would have SYNERGY!

Nothing burns like just saying "Yeah... Not funny."

I think that will be a tough one to find. A lot of people around here think they're the funniest fucks, and any type of Just Stop request will come off as 'mean'.

I'm glad I didn't come across the Big Hand thread until it was already pounded into China, because I'd probably get it there faster. I went in there once, and never returned. That's strategy has worked fine for me in four years.

I think that might be the wrong way to go. I've resurrected a couple of threads on movies that have been out awhile and I missed. Despite the fact that far too many people don't use the search function before posting a new thread, locking threads after a certain period of inactivity would take a lot of the usefulness out of the search function.
The problem with locking threads is that we've seem some remarkable comebacks after it looked like things could get no worse (thinking of My Homemade Movie Posters).

Old Man Wayne will git 'er done.
