Blatant Ripoff/Cash-In Movies - Page 4

My favorite cash in/rip off: DNA. Almost a shot for shot rip off of Predator, with the worst special effect ever put on celluloid: the helicopter crash. It looked like a cut scene from a NES game. I remember laughing non stop during its 100 min runtime.
Asylum's stuff appears to be the closest we have to a modern-day AIP, which is kind of sad. It seems unlikely that the next Scorsese or Dante are working the salt mines over there.
Seriously? Even the race change?

They'll have to do a Boyz N the Hood with white people, then. Boyz N the Hood: The Suburbs
post #155 of 207
LISZTOMANIA was a cash-in of TOMMY.

What does the blurb on the cover say, this is a rip off of Shrek?
Uh, I think that says that the producers saw Shrek.
That company that spawned those terrible Pixar/Dreamworks knock offs has a Youtube channel. They look even worse than I imagined. Weird.
Oh god those are horrible. People buy that stuff?

This is the greatest creature design I have ever seen in the last three minutes:

Is the "Mexican werewolf" supposed to be a chupacabra or are they just being insanely racist?

Lets just say the original "The fearless vampire killers" from Roman Polanski is way better. They try to go for a "Shaun of the Dead" vibe but fail miserably. And anything that this poster or the trailer promise you....please take it with a pinch of salt.
That Werewolf looks like an evil version of Station from Bill and Ted.
James Corden AND Mathew Horne?!

...Wait, who are they?

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently they have a decent following across the pond. I'm an asshole.
I'm trying to decide if those CGI knock offs cross the line into 'so bad it's good' territory.

Nah, they pretty much suck so it's all good.

four pages and no mention of the infamous Euro Jaws ripoffs, like Great White or The Last Jaws or Shark Attack 1-3? Forshame

The guy on the right actually looks like a lesbian too.

I'd call this a knockoff, but it's just too ugly to think about.

This isn't even pretending!

Jesus Christ. Asylum style rip-offs I get and think are fun. But I'm not sure how you could live with yourself creatively making rip-offs like those.
Yeah, but unlike those lazy bastards at PIXAR, they've already got their Cars 2 out to the public:

http://www.amazon.com/Little-Cars-Ro...d_bxgy_d_img_b

They enough about their audience to assure crappy sequels in a timely manner.

How soon before the inevitable MIND INTERCEPTORS or some such gets made?

Sharkspoitation (like the ALIEN-ripoff) is a veritable genre unto itself. And I love those flicks to pieces.

I weep for any child that accidentally gets stuck watching Chop Kick Panda (which is still being sold at Krogers) in place of the Kung Fu Panda movies.

Not only is a blatant ripoff, but the name "CHOP KICK PANDA" is awful! Shoulda named him "BITCH SLAP PANDA" while they're at it.

That and those phony lame ass excuse for fireworks they bring out every Fourth of July. Bad movies named kinda like the real thing and sparklers advertised with rocket explosions on the wrapper. Fucking Krogers.......fucking liars.

This is where Asylum really missed the boat. They had a very good business model and the shelf space at Blockbuster to make it happen but they kind of screwed themselves out of what should have been a guaranteed cult following by making such criminally-boring films. Outside of the awful CGI, which was fairly cheap and distracting to boot, they had some decent production values and were occasionally able to rope in a few smaller-known stars. The cover art was a lot like a 70's exploitation movie. Far more intruiging than the titles themselves. Apparently, they jumped at the chance to make Sy Fy originals but I can't help but think about what could have been.

I think they could still save themselves........................................if they actually gave a shit.

Maybe but with Blockbuster basically gone and the brick-and-mortar video store rental model dying with it, they don't have that ability to pull people in in the same manner. The mockbuster catches your eye on a video store shelf. There's impulse rental potential there that doesn't quite translate to Redbox, instant video, or any of these online concepts. They'll get by doing the SyFy premiere thing and since that channel embraces such shitty-looking CGI in their films, it's unlikely they'll be inspired to create better product through that relationship.

Asylum makes a film from start to finish in less than 3 months. Their CG is Z-Grade for sure, but probably due to budget. Asylum's wasting budget on these B-level stars where Corman's spending the money lately on the beast and FX, and it shows. You can't put all the texture of a creature in the low-res texture map, Asylum, work on that geometry (compare Corman's not-bad Dinoshark CG model to Asylum's terrible Gatoroid)!!!

SCREEN-dinoshark_t_w480.jpgMega_Python_VS_Gatoroid_2011_Official_Trailer.jpg

Another trouble Asylum's films have (besides not really being sleazy enough like GALAXY OF TERROR, etc) is the "filler" material. It either comes across as improv'd or first takes. The dialogue is atrocious either way. And plentiful between set pieces (TRANSMORPHERS was a slog). If they can make it more entertaining in those quiet moments (or moments when the characters argue about what to do next), they may be on to something. They came closest with MEGA PIRANHA.

Quote: PUSS IN BOOTS: A FURRY TAIL director Darrell Van Citters
The cover was meant to create confusion in the marketplace by intimating that the film is CG but unfortunately bears virtually no resemblance to what’s actually on the DVD. I only directed it, but I worked with the writer to make sure he didn’t write anything that couldn’t be executed for more than a $1.98.

You think that's meant to create confusion? I submit.

Granted, I'm curious about Shatner's puss performance in this. And that it actually has elements from the original Perrault tale (miller's son, princess, ogre, etc). Nevermind, I just watched the trailer.

Note that all 3 cats are short-hair orange tabbies, despite cats actually coming in many colors, patterns, and fur length.

BWAAAHAHAHA Carl Weathers.

Sorry. The memory of Apollo Creed and Predator has long since been eclipsed by this:

Though my favorite has always been:

"Whoa, your wife works in a restaurant? Do they get free shift meals, or a discount on select menu items?"

I'd rather watch Carl Weathers in a movie than Rihanna any day of the week.

Wait, there's a choice? Did I miss something?*

No dis meant to the Weathers, he was just funny as fuck on AD.

* ...Aha, never mind, she's apparently in the actual Battleship. Shows you how much attention I've been paying to Battleship.

They filmed this here in Wilmington, and the local paper ran an interview with the director that almost had me getting defensive of Battleship.  In the interview (here) he takes umbrage at the term "mockbuster" and is pretty defensive/in-denial of comparisons between the two.

Quote:
"I don't really get how it's based on the board game," Levin said. "It seems they just took the title and also decided to make a movie they could call ‘Battleship.' I don't see that they're any less of a mockbuster than we are, they just have a lot more money to spend."

They're doing a longer multi-part interview too, but its been like a week since they posted part one.

Anyway, I'll watch both movies from the comfort of my couch, and I have a feeling both will be entertaining in very unintentional ways.

Trying to conjure a bit o Harry Potter? Ironic considering the hardcore Christian community is so against that franchise...

Even the FB ad says "It's MADAGASCAR meets HAPPY FEET"...

And speaking of MADAGASCAR (course Disney's THE WILD ripped them off firstly and more thoroughly)...
