Tim Lucas' exhaustive new book (a staggering 1,128 pages!) on the life and films of writer/director/cinematographer/effects wizard Mario Bava (BLACK SUNDAY, DANGER DIABOLIK, BAY OF BLOOD) has finally been published and hits the pre-order crowd -- I ordered my copy way back in 2001! -- over the next two weeks. This baby looks incredible:

With an introduction by Scorsese!

Book looks good.

I know Martino had the cooler sounding titles but still, shame he didn't name it after a Bava film, really.

Lucas chose the title long before ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK was released to DVD by Shriek Show. Prior to that the Martino film was known in the U.S. as THEY'RE COMING TO GET YOU, which is how it played grindhouses in the mid-1970s.

doesn't really matter when a particular DVD was released or what it was called in grindhouses, the fact remains that the original Italian title of Martino's giallo translates to "All the Colors of the Darkness" or "All the Colors of the Dark". this has always been the case.

Well...okay.

But would we be here nitpicking if that Shriek Show disc hadn't run with the original title? Do you go around referring to DUCK, YOU SUCKER! as KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN, BALLS?

Probably not.
