Pretty good HD-DVD Player/Disc Deal

Okay, so I just checked this out from slickdeals.net and it's legit:
  1. Go to www.Amazon.com
  2. Add Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player to cart for $239 (In Stock)
  3. Add any three of the following movies:
300 (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD)
TMNT (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD)
Happy Feet (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD)
The Departed (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD)
The Fountain (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD)
Letters from Iwo Jima (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD)
  4. Checkout... your final total will be approx. $211 with free shipping
  5. Submit the HD-DVD rebate form for 5 extra movies.

$211 SHIPPED for the player and 8 HD DVDs!!!

You can also use various Toshiba player & movies combos (including the 1080p HD-A20) for other similar deals.

Just a heads-up in case anyone was close to jumping in. For some perspective, $211 for just that player alone would be a hell of a deal.

Yeah I saw this via engadget and jumped all over the hd-a20 for it's 1080p capabilities. I ordered The fountain, The departed and Pitch black with the player. total was about 320... plus another 5 movies later!
Really excited about this.

The full list of titles you can choose for your two freebies is here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...25031&plpage=2

Two pages long and lots of good stuff. That added with the buy 2 get one free deal makes it a total of 8 free movies (unless you use the deal with the 360 add-on, in which you get 8 free movies plus King Kong for $179 shipped)

Part of me finds this very tempting. Part of me remembers my parents bought a Beta.

If you do this, just make real sure you're buying from Amazon themselves and not an affiliate like J&R. They gave me a hard time a while back when I ordered mine, and wound up returning it and buying at Circuit City.

Don't regret the purchase, though. Regardless of who wins. I was tired of watching SD on my HD tv.

FYI, you also get the same deal with the XBox360 add-on player, which is even cheaper.

Hey, I still watch Total Recall on mine!

I tried this. But when I go to checkout, the price of the 3 DVDs isn't deducted from the total price. I must be doing something wrong.

Doesn't look like the deal is active any more. I can still find the special for the XBox360 HD-DVD player, but not for any of the Toshiba players. I think it was only being offered if the Toshiba player is being sold directly by Amazon, like the 360 player. The must have sold out. The Toshiba player is now being sold by a third party vendor.

Hopefully when they get more in stock they'l offer the special again.

Ah, makes sense. If not, $238.00 is still a pretty good deal for the player, and the other 5 free DVDs.
